Two More U.S. Soldiers Killed over Quran Burning, Obama Claims Apologies Have "Calmed Things Down"

After the killing of American troops began, NATO separated Afghan workers from Western forces. Now that NATO has allowed Afghan workers to return to base, the killing of U.S. soldiers by Afghan "allies" has resumed.

It's one thing to get killed on the battlefield. It's quite another to get killed by someone you've been ordered to work with as a show of good relations. I have no idea who dreamed up the "sitting duck" strategy, but it's costing a lot of lives.

KABUL – Two American soldiers were killed Thursday in a shooting by an Afghan soldier and a literacy teacher at a joint base in southern Afghanistan, officials said, the latest in a series of deaths as anti-Americanism rises following the burning of Qurans by U.S. soldiers.

Both were killed on the same day that the top NATO commander allowed a small number of foreign advisers to return to work at Afghan ministries after more than a week of being locked down in secure locations because of the killing of two other Americans.

Thursday's killings raised to six the number of Americans killed in less than two weeks amid heightened tensions over the Feb, 20 burning of Qurans and other Islamic texts that had been dumped in a garbage pit at Bagram Air Field near Kabul. More than 30 Afghans also were killed in six days of violent riots that broke out after the incident.

President Barack Obama and other U.S. officials apologized and said the burning was an accident, but that has failed to quell the anger. (Read more.)

Meanwhile, President Obama is claiming that his apologies "calmed things down."

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama said his apology for the burning of Korans at a U.S. military base has "calmed things down" in Afghanistan, after the incident triggered an outbreak of violence that left four U.S. service members and dozens of Afghans dead last week.

On Thursday, two more American troops were reported killed by an Afghan soldier and civilian opening fire on them.

In an interview with ABC News' Bob Woodruff that aired Wednesday, Obama was asked if he thought his apologizing to Afghan counterpart Hamid Karzai had improved the situation on the ground. The president replied, "It calmed things down." (Read more.)

Around 40 people have been killed over the recent Qur'an burning, and Obama tells us that his apologies really made a difference. I wonder how many people Obama thinks would have died without all the cowardly groveling?

I did prophesied about this ...

Apology does not work ...

Actually ...

Islam see this as weakness!

Let me tell you how the system works here as far as getting Arabic translators ...

A Muslim friend at work from India ask me if I received an invitation from FBI to apply because he did received a letter from them!

I think this is biased and erroneous

He has Muslim name but don't know Arabic and I don't have Arabic name and know Arabic don't get a letter! ...

Don't worry guys ... the government knows what it is doing! NOT

God have mercy on us all ...

thanks Grant Kelly for the link

This line caught my eyes

"‘When the Taliban are blowing up schools or mosques, aren’t they burning the Quran? Mosques are filled with hundreds of copies of the Quran. How come no one is saying anything about this?’”

This is true in other Islamic countries too ...

Where Shiia and Sunni blow each other Mosques and schools!

Don't they have Quran there?

@ Sara

It is noticeable that in Islam there are no concept what I mean it all depends on situation/conditions ...

for example
killing is not wrong if you doing it to an infidel

raping is not wrong if it is a slave

and so on ...
