Indian Mob Storms Prison and Lynches Muslim Rapist Syed Farid Khan

Syed Farid Khan, a 35-year-old used car salesman, was accused of raping a 19-year-old college student. An angry mob in Nagaland, India, stormed the prison, dragged him out, tortured him, and killed him.
Reuters—A mob of several thousand people broke into a high-security prison in India, dragged out a rape suspect and killed him, officials said on Friday, adding that police had to impose a curfew to restore order.

Rape has been a particularly emotive crime in India since 2012, when a student was raped and tortured on a bus in New Delhi and later died. The government has banned a documentary about that attack, re-igniting debate about gender inequality.

The mob attacked the prison late on Thursday in the northeastern state of Nagaland.

The man, a 35-year-old Muslim businessman accused of raping a woman, was dragged out and hauled naked through the streets and beaten to death.

"Security personnel at the jail were overpowered by the mob," said the state's chief minister, T.R.Zeliang.

One person was killed and several injured when police fired on the mob. (Continue Reading.)

India: Meerut District on Edge After Gang-Rape and Forced Conversion of Hindu Woman

Women are victims of rape in cultures around the world, but Islam adds a degree of religious motivation to the attacks.
India's Meerut District
Hindustan Times—The district administration deployed additional forces in the Kharkhauda area on Monday to diffuse communal tension after a 20-year-old woman complained of forced conversion at a madrasa and subsequent gang-rape.

Meerut superintendent of police (rural) MM Beg confirmed arrest of three out of four accused named in the complaint, including a woman and a girl.

He said raids are on to nab the Urdu teacher of the madrasa.

The alleged forced conversion took place at a madrasa in Dautai village of neighbouring Hapur on July 30, a day after Eid.

The woman worked as a teacher in the madrasa at Sarawa village, 40 km from Dautai and around 25 km from Meerut. . . .

He said that girl's medical examination has been concluded but added she would have to undergo a few additional tests.

The Hindu teacher, who taught Hindi and English at the madrasa, had alleged that after her conversion, she was taken to Muzaffarnagar where she was kept in confinement.

She also alleged that she was gang-raped during her confinement. She, however, did not identify the rapists.

She claimed to have escaped from the clutches of her abductors and return to her house in Kharkhauda and narrate the ordeal to her family-members.

The girl's family had lodged a missing complaint at Kharkhauda police station on July 30.

On Monday, the Muzaffarnagar district administration also raided a religious education centre but found no girl being held captive there.

The raid was carried out after the victim claimed that 20 more girls were held captive at the place in Muzaffarnagar. (Continue Reading.)
