Please post the audio if this is recorded, David. I won't be able to listen to it in its entirety live. Godspeed!

I'm listening right now. Can't wait to see this man squirm out of this one.

Thought listening to this show I can't image why the mayor would agree to be on here. It doesn't seem real Islam-friendly.

We'll see

Funny, Mayor said the Security Guards were put through a background check, but we all saw the same woman arrest Negeen that was part of the problem last year.

I just finished listening. The Mayor didn't really have a whole lot to say on the comeback. Big surprise.

Still praying for you guys!

only caught the last 20 minutes - City of Dearborn is toast. Good job David.

The mayor wins the Jihadist liar of the 21st century award. I sincerely advise that mayor to save face and resign. What a looser. His credibility has been trashed. LOL

Police training? Trained to lie? Falsify charges and reports? Illegally seize evidence and make unlawful arrests?

Great job David.

Interesting indeed,

Were the interests of public safety the underlying principle for suppressing free speech, than there never would be the issuance of permits for Gay Pride Festivals in view of the rampant homophobia allegedly prevalent in society and which may cause disturbances, fights, shouting, and other forms of aggressive behavior. I guess it all depends on which agenda is to be to be considered more worthy or as in this case suspect. Revealing.

It was OK but I think more would have been achieved if there had been more time for back-and-forth. Perhaps it was just because of the way that the host wanted to set it up and David had to comply, but David wasted (had to waste?) quite a lot of time explaining background issues (including a very detailed narration of what happened at the festival before things got interesting) before he could get to the main issues - though obviously some background information was necessary. But starting from the first "rebuttals" all the way through to the finish, David was clearly the one who was more organized and convincing. The mayor danced around some issues but it may not be completely evident to those listeners who haven't familiarized themselves with any of the video materials etc. Interestingly, O'Reilly had to retract one or two of his claims. I missed perhaps 2-3 minutes total of the discussion since my connection had some problems, but other than that, I should have the whole discussion recorded. If the radio station doesn't release the recording themselves, David could perhaps check with them if it's OK for David and Nabeel to use the file that I recorded.

It doesn't even sound like he's seen the tapes. He does mention about it being "cut up", been then he wasn't sure what to say when the part about the officer saying they were fine was brought up.

The mayor didn't really say much for me. It sounded much more like an advertisement for the festival then anything. The tents must be just huge to listen to him tell it...

A more appropriate final summation would of included him telling us to "Bring the kids, we got free ballons"

"...."Oh yes, they all float - and when you're down here with us, you'll float too!"

*shakes head*

Dave,

We have been praying for you daily and listened to your broadcast. We couldn't be more proud of you.

Keep up the good work (Acts 5:41) and the good character (1 Peter 3:13-17)

I recorded the last 40 minutes of it and will be posting it on my blog (linked below) as soon as humanly possible. I'm editing it so the file is a reasonable size for downloads.

Didn't get to hear it. What did the mayor retract? And did he admit he was retracting?

Lydia McGrew said...

Doesn't he realize that by getting so involved qua mayor in defending his city and giving constant spin on this before it ever comes to trial he is just begging for Acts 17 to get a change of venue if it were ever to come to trial?

Glenn, I'll e-mail you a link to a file that contains beginning part of the program though it may be that you caught most of it (I found your e-mail address on your blog). The actual discussion didn't start until perhaps 15 minutes into the program.

Haecceitas said...

OK Glenn, I started listening to the first one of your files. Looks like you caught almost all of it but your recording is of worse quality than mine. Feel free to use the file I sent you a link to if you want to get the few first minutes in. (Or perhaps use my file and get the few missing pieces in it from your file.)

The Mayor seems to have a personal vestment in this incident. Does this seem strange to anyone?

I'm used to Chicago Politics where Mayor Daily always separates himself from what the police do. He always defers to the CPD command.

Now there are acceptions to this but it just seems to me this Mayor has a personal political investment in what happend.

It is obvious that David, Nabeel and crew were set up. They were targeted from the get go.

I'm wondering if the decision came down from the Mayor's office.

Maybe Representative Tom McMillin can comment on this.

I listened to the debate. The mayor was very voluble about the case up until the moment David Wood started bringing up facts in the video footage that transparently disprove the charges against Acts 17. At that point -- what a coincidence! -- the mayor suddenly couldn't talk about the case, because it wouldn't do, he tells us, to give away how his side will proceed in court.

I think the mayor lost his volubility because he didn't know the answers to David Wood's questions -- the mayor was caught flat-footed by David's references to specific portions of the video footage of the events. So, like any over-slick politician, the mayor decided to stonewall by telling us, basically, that the charges against Acts 17 will be explained later. The check is in the mail. But what will you do, Mr. Mayor, when your check bounces like a superball?

To me it looks as if the Dearborn mayor and police got too hair-trigger about crowd control, and too solicitous of their Muslim constituency, and as a result let themselves jump the gun and trample the First Amendment rights of Acts 17, when there was no legitimate reason for doing so. Worse, after screwing up in that way, they lied about it and continue to lie about it.

If you listen to the interview with David Wood and the mayor, it becomes clear that the mayor, in making the charges, has not even taken the trouble to familiarize himself with easily verifiable facts of the case. That irresponsibility alone deserves a complete and total rebuke from the public and the courts.

It's one thing when a private individual makes mistakes, lies about them, and behaves irresponsibly about a fiasco he has caused. But when a public official does all those things, and does them in way that employs police and courts to victimize innocent citizens, then that official severely abuses the public trust and deserves to be removed from office.

Now I really have to agree with The Fat Man, when he says: "The Mayor seems to have a personal investment in this incident. Does this seem strange to anyone?" I think The Fat Man is onto something.

I would have loved to be a fly on the wall to see if this conversation ever took place...
"What? Almost 2 Million views on YouTube... this David Wood guy is getting to be a problem... He needs to be shut down..."

BTW, here's a few more clues about me:

A vision appeared to Paul in the night: a man of Macedonia was standing and appealing to him, and saying, "Come over to Macedonia and help us."

And having sent into Macedonia two of his helpers, Timothy and Erastus, he himself stayed in Asia for a while.

Now after these things were finished, Paul purposed in the spirit to go to Jerusalem after he had passed through Macedonia and Achaia, saying, "After I have been there, I must also see Rome."

The mayor said "We haven't had a problem until Acts 17 showed up."

Actually, you haven't had a problem until you arrested Acts 17. Apparently, the mayor thinks you were ruining the festival.

Just listened to recording. Well done David!

Here's a few comments regarding Mayor O'Reilly's responses:

1.) Are citizens legally bound to evangelize in only the "best" ways possible? The Mayor's argument against Acts 17 centered upon questioning the effectiveness of their apologetic method. He expressed his opinion on what would make for more effective apologetics, yet even if he is right on this point, it is in no way a criminal issue.

2.) Is cherry picking alright?. Mayor O'Reily references Kelly Boggs of Baptist Press in a way that appears that Boggs is in support of the actions of the DPD.

Boggs does admit to jumping to conclusions and writes "...I have received ample information that makes it clear the Gospel is not being muzzled by anyone in the city of Dearborn. In fact, quite the opposite seems to be true." However, did the Mayor fail to read (or intentionally mispresent Boggs views) the words immediately preceding this statement? Boggs prefaced the before quote with, "While the arrest of the four men is troublesome..."

Boggs restates that he regrets "the conclusion that [he] jumped to and the impression it gave concerning the Christian presence and witness at the Dearborn Arab Festival." Yet, this is immediately followed by "Still troubling is the arrest of the four men." Is it just me or is it clear that Kelly Boggs is NOT letting Dearborn of the hook so quick.

Furthermore, Boggs notes that the evidence appears to indicate that Acts 17 was "conducting themselves in a very peaceful manner." Unfortunately, he appears to be under the impression (at least when this article was written - July 02) that handing out Gospels had something to do with the arrests. As this is false, it only helps Acts 17's case further.

To top all this off, Bogg reiterates his opinion as he is drawing his article to a close stating, "Does the action the city of Dearborn constitution a violation of the First Amendment rights of the Acts 17 evangelists? I think so, but ultimately that will be up to a judge to decide."

Is it just me or is Kelly Boggs of Baptist Press leaning far more in support of Acts 17 over the city of Dearborn? Decide for yourself by checking out the article at the following link:
http://www.bpnews.net/BPFirstPerson.asp?ID=33285

I couldn't find a more recent article by Kelly Boggs on the issue and so I assume it's the one Mayor O'Reilly was referencing.

3.) Is it every citizen's duty to limit their freedoms in such a manner that will not anger and potentially cause a dangerous situation? What legal precedents do the Mayor have to support this premise? By this same standard, would it have been proper to arrest African Americans that engaged in the Civil Rights marches? Talk about inflaming passions.

He failed to cite anything which Acts 17 did that was actually illegal. The only support he used was a rather vague reference to breaking the rules (of which the only specific rested primarily on blocking the tent). Yet, these remain unproven on his part, and even if it was it is an extremely weak case to base an arrest off of.

I had the opportunity to listen to the program - though I think it was a re broacast. Ket me say this. I was there I saw what happened the mayor to the best of my knowledge was not there and quite frankly the mayor lied. He is out to try and save his ownn political skin and that of his chief who also lied.
