Are the New Testament Gospels Based On Eyewitness Testimony? Jonathan McLatchie vs. Yusuf Ismail
Last month, I participated in a public moderated debate with Muslim apologist Yusuf Ismail, a criminal defence attorney from South Africa. The debate took place in Durban, South Africa, and was hosted by the Islamic Propagation Centre International (IPCI). I have now uploaded the full recording (see embedded video above). Enjoy!

"Is the Trinity consistent with the Old Testament?" Jonathan McLatchie vs. Yusuf Ismail
I recently engaged in a public moderated debate in South Africa with Muslim criminal defense lawyer and apologist, Yusuf Ismail. Our subject was the concept of God in the Hebrew Bible -- specifically, whether God reveals Himself as Triune in the Old Testament. Here is the recording of the debate.

"Is Jesus God, or is He a Prophet of Islam?" Shabir Ally vs. Jonathan McLatchie: Watch the Live-Stream This Friday

This coming Friday, August 12th, Dr. Shabir Ally and I will be engaging in a public dialogue in Woolwich, London. This will be the second time that Dr. Shabir Ally and I have debated. A year ago, I did my first ever formal public debate with Shabir Ally on the nature of God in Islam and Christianity (Tawhid vs. Trinity). It is amazing to think that only a year later, this will be my eighth formal debate (my 15th if you count my radio debates).
Our subject will be the identity of Jesus in Islam and Christianity. The event begins at 5:15pm GMT (12:15pm Eastern / 11:15am Central), and will be live-streamed on the web. Here is the live-stream link:
Please pray for this event, as it is an opportunity for Muslim to be presented with the true Jesus of Scripture and of history, and see his real identity defended in an intellectually compelling way.

An Open Challenge To Mansoor Ahmed

I would suggest Zoom (the webinar platform I use for my Apologetics Academy) as a suitable online venue for such a dialogue, but I am open to pursuing a "real-life" public dialogue, or even a conversational radio debate, if that is preferred.
Mansoor strikes me as a confident debater, so I see no reason why he should be averse to accepting this challenge if he is confident that his claims and views can be defended in the context of moderated debate. To accept this challenge, all Mansoor has to do is send me an email at jmclatchie@apologetics-academy.org and we will work out the particulars from there. I look forward to hearing from him.

Two of My Debates on the Trinity vs. Tawhid
Below are two debates of mine that I have done on the subject of the doctrine of the Trinity vs. the Islamic concept of Tawhid (oneness of Allah). The first of these aired on Premier Christian Radio in the UK back in May of last year. My opponent was Abdurraheem Green, director of the Islamic Education and Research Academy (IERA).
The second one is a more recent debate, with a formal structure, which took place in London in August of 2015. My opponent was Muslim scholar Dr. Shabir Ally, president of the Islamic Information and Dawah Centre International in Toronto. For my responses to commentary on this debate by Ijaz Ahmed of Calling Christians, see my articles here and here.
Enjoy!

Upcoming Debates with Ayoob Karim in South Africa

In the last week of March and first week of April, I am going to be doing a short speaking and debating tour in South Africa. In all, I will be doing a total of five debates with Muslims during this tour. Two of those debates, taking place over Easter weekend, will be with Ayoob Karim (see promotional poster above). We will be debating "What did Jesus preach -- Christianity or Islam?" and "The true nature of God -- Trinity or Tauheed?" More announcements to follow in due course.

Having Conversations Full of Grace and Seasoned With Salt: Advice to the Christian Debater
In his letter to the Colossians, the Apostle Paul instructs his readers to “Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person,” (Colossians 4:6). I have found this advice to be invaluable in the context of debate, an activity in which many of us in the apologetics community participate.
Recently, I have had the opportunity to be involved in several debates with both Muslims and atheists.

Is Jesus a Prophet or is He also God? Sam Shamoun vs. Anjem Choudary
Here is a must-see debate that recently took
place between Sam Shamoun and Anjem Choudary. In this debate Sam manages not
only to demonstrate the deity of Christ and dismantle popular Muslim arguments
against it; he even manages to educate Anjem on what the Qur’an teaches about the
authority, preservation, and reliability of the Bible, and also helps Anjem see
why it would not be a good idea for him to go to Iraq, at least while it is
under the control of ISIS.

Debate: Does God Exist? (David Wood vs. Heina Dadabhoy)
Here's a recent debate I had with Heina Dadabhoy on the existence of God. Heina was raised as a Mulim, but she's an atheist now. Although she's fairly new on the scene, she's already better than most atheist debaters.
I also interviewed Heina on her reasons for leaving Islam and becoming an atheist:

Debate: Is ISIS Islamic? (David Wood vs. Osama Abdallah)
Politicians and the media assure us that the actions of ISIS (the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) have nothing to do with the teachings of Muhammad or the Quran. Jihadists fighting for ISIS, however, can quote Allah and Muhammad to justify their campaign of violence and terrorism. So is ISIS Islamic? In the Western tradition of open debate, Osama Abdallah and I step on stage and present our evidence.

Andrew Livingston vs. Anthony Rogers: Was Muhammad a True Prophet?
Was Muhammad a true prophet? Muslim convert Andrew Livingston certainly thinks so. But can his reasons for believing in Muhammad stand up to scrutiny? In this debate, Christian apologist Anthony Rogers puts Livingston's arguments to the test. Sam Shamoun moderates.

David Wood vs. Farhan Qureshi: How Should We Confront the Islamic Challenge?
On the one hand, many of us know peaceful Muslims who have no interest in jihad or imposing sharia law. On the other hand, more than 24,000 deadly terrorist attacks since 9-11, along with the recent advance of jihadist groups like the Islamic State (ISIS), demand our attention. How can we confront intolerance without becoming intolerant? How can we protect ourselves from jihadists while also protecting peaceful Muslims from discrimination?
In this debate on the Trinity Channel, Farhan Qureshi and I discuss how we should respond to the Islamic challenge.
