Muhammad's View of Women

Muslims often claim that Muhammad promoted women's rights. Islam's most trusted sources, however, tell a different story. According to the Qur'an, the testimony of a woman is only half as reliable as a man's testimony. Muhammad explains why in the hadith, where he declares that women are less intelligent and more immoral than men. When we combine these teachings with other Qur'anic teachings (e.g., Allah allowing men to beat their wives into submission, to rape their female captives, and to have sex with prepubescent girls), Muhammad's view of women becomes perfectly clear.

Here are some sources to consider:

Qur'an 4:34—Men are in charge of women, because Allah hath made the one of them to excel the other, and because they spend of their property (for the support of women). So good women are the obedient, guarding in secret that which Allah hath guarded. As for those from whom ye fear rebellion, admonish them and banish them to beds apart, and scourge them. Then if they obey you, seek not a way against them. Lo! Allah is ever High, Exalted, Great.

Sahih al-Bukhari 2658—The Prophet said: "Isn't the witness of a woman equal to half of that of a man?" The women said: "Yes." He said: "This is because of the deficiency of her mind."

Sahih al-Bukhari 1052—The Prophet said: ". . . I saw the Hell-fire and I had never seen such a horrible sight. I saw that most of the inhabitants were women." The people asked: "O Allah's Apostle! Why is it so?" The Prophet said: "Because of their ungratefulness." It was asked whether they are ungrateful to Allah. The Prophet said: "They are ungrateful to their companions of life (husbands) and ungrateful to good deeds."

Sahih Muslim 142—[Muhammad said]: O womenfolk, you should give charity and ask much forgiveness for I saw you in bulk amongst the dwellers of Hell. A wise lady among them said: Why is it, Messenger of Allah, that our folk are in bulk in Hell? Upon this the Holy Prophet observed: You curse too much and are ungrateful to your spouses. I have seen none lacking in common sense and failing in religion but (at the same time) robbing the wisdom of the wise, besides you. Upon this the woman remarked: What is wrong with our common sense and with our religion? He (the Holy Prophet) observed: Your lack of common sense (can be well judged from the fact) that the evidence of two women is equal to one man; that is a proof of the lack of common sense.

Muhammad seems to have viewed women as cattle/livestock to be bought, traded and sold.

His view of women seems to have been on a par with a pimp’s/whoremonger’s view of women.

...but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge. Hebrews 13:4

...murderers, whoremongers... iolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire... Revelation 21:8

As per God's righteous judgement, it's not looking good for Muhammad or his followers in the afterlife.

Better run to and follow Jesus instead.

The FIRST WITNESS of Mr.Moe Prophethood is A WOMAN (Siti Khadijah), and by this Moe for the first time believed that he was a prophet.

Sahih al-Bukhari 2658—The Prophet said: "Isn't the witness of a woman equal to half of that of a man?" The women said: "Yes." He said: "This is because of the deficiency of her mind

So here's the situation,

Muhammad thought he was loosing his mind when he encountered a 'terrifying spirit' in Hira cave so he based on the testimony of Siti Khadija(A PERSON WITH MIND DEFICIENCY ACCORDING TO SAHIH BUKHARI)to confirm his prophethood

And that's how Islam was firstly emerged in 7th century Arabia!

A religion based on assumption of nearly demented man(Muhammad) and a person with deficient mind(Siti Khadija)

ROFL!

Well, atleast Mohammad enjoined Muslim men to be kind to their prisoner (wives). Kindness on the condition of total submission and obedience.

The Prophet (pbuh) said,

“Listen! Treat women kindly, they are like prisoners in your hands. Beyond this do not use anything from them. If they are guilty of flagrant misbehaviors, you can remove them from your beds and beat them but do not inflict upon them any severe punishment. Then, if they obey you, you do not have recourse to anything else against them. Listen! You have your rights upon your wives and they have their rights upon you. Your right is that they shall not allow anyone you dislike to trample your bed and do not permit them to enter your home.” (Tirmdhi and Ibn Hibban)

The Prophet (pbuh) said,

“Had it been permissible that a person prostrate himself before another, I would have ordered that a wife prostrate herself before her husband.” (Tirmidhi, Abu Dawud, Ibn Majah and Ahmad)

'Aishah said, "O women, had you known your husbands' rights, any woman among you would have wiped dust from her husband's shoes on her face"

@Beth...you didn't read the post but let's say for kicks you did. Don't you realize there are contradictions about your prophet so you can't know what he believed about women?

Also, cite your sources. Where did you get them so we can look them up for ourselves. David gave the citation for all the quotes he gave. You need to do likewise.
If these even are sources...you Muslims are famous for lying and your holy book says you can do it to further Islam.

Beth said...

@Deleting Ummm....Did you read my first sentence? I called the wives prisoners. And then made a bitter remark on how kindness is condentional. How is that defensive of Islam? I was criticizing Islam and that is actually a very hard for me. And over the past year I've stuggled with my belief in Islam (12 years converted Muslim)fear and belief is not as easy to over come as winning a debate! And I have watched nearly everything Sam, David, and Pastor Joseph has posted on YouTube. Apparently, the sarcasm went over your head!!!!

Secondly, I did include which books the sources came from just not the exact numbers. I was commenting not writing a research paper. If you want the sources that badly go google it yourself.

Maybe you shoud check how nasty you are you might just turn people like me away from seeking Christ.

LOL! I think Deleting must have been in a rush and simply skimmed your comment without actually reading it.

As a regular follower of this blog, I just want to share an observation: Your replies have gotten angrier and less discerning lately. I don't mean to say that to point a finger but simply to call your attention to it.

I had been interacting with Muslims on Facebook for a few years, and I understand how mounting frustrations with their "apologetic" tactics and evasions can slowly and deviously drive us to a kind of aggression we would have hitherto frowned upon as inappropriate and unbecoming of us. I learned to step back and take a break for a few weeks whenever I find myself less able to listen and interact with patience.

I hope you step back a bit and take time to regain your balance. I appreciate how you used to address the objections and arguments presented by Muslims on this blog.

With love in Christ.

David Wood said...

I've noticed the change in Deleting's comments as well. More hostile and less accurate lately.

"Secondly, I did include which books the sources came from just not the exact numbers."

No one else writes research papers here either, but they can cite the source along with the book it came from. If you can't do it, don't post it.

I could have posted things from the Koran too. I didn't because I didn't have the source in front of me.

"Maybe you shoud check how nasty you are you might just turn people like me away from seeking Christ"

If you really think people like me turn people like you away from Christ, you're looking to the WRONG people.

And probably the wrong God.

Am I fallible? Ab-so-FREAKIN-lutely. Did I promise I would be anything but?

I struggle with sin every day.

As far as nasty, sorry. That's just how I roll sometimes. You do it too...

@betwixt

I comment on what I see and read. The degree of the 'comment' determines the tone I use.

The nature of Beth's comment is an example. As was my reply if David posts it.

As far as the other 'comments' the only one in recent history is Umm Yusuf and quite frankly she wrote a freakin paragraph about how she thought she 'wasn't lying'...

You know if you are or if your not. Period.

I try to be accurate as I can given what I have. It's funny David said I've been ' less accurate lately.' The quickest place to pull information for a rebuttal on Islam is from your blog. I open another browser and search.

If you don't like my comments, don't read them. Ignore me. It doesn't detract from you being able to do what you feel you're called to do.

"If you really think people like me turn people like you away from Christ, you're looking to the WRONG people."

Yeah, you are probably right. But, I don't think I was looking to you at all!!! David and Sam take a big brother, tough love, approach but you are just spoiling for a fight with any Muslim you come across to prove you are an intellectual Hot Shot. What happened to turning the other cheek, and showing Christian compassion?

If you're such a perfect scholar snob where is your blog??? You are the type of person who would have felt right at home among the Pharisees in your "fallible" perfection. I'd like to see you tell your remark to GOD on the Day of Judgment, "Am I fallible? Ab-so-FREAKIN-lutely. Did I promise I would be anything but?" You probably would have held the nails for the Roman soldiers!

What is the purpose of being so aggressive with me in the comment section of "someone elses blog" when I wasn't even being hostile or vulgar? I neglected to include numbers on some quotes. Your point is made, but I propbably won't bother to comment again.

"And probably the wrong God."

Maybe I am!!! But, you may want to reflect more upon the God you argue for. You should take time out to meditate more on the life and manners of Jesus, Himself, instead of focusing on winning arguments. I do not represent all the Muslims that you argue with--and score holier than thou points with--if you can't treat each Muslim as an individual then perhaps you shouldn't post comments on this blog either. Does your "kindness" reflect the "kindness" of one who is born again in Christ? Are you so certain that YOU are born again???

I'm not sure if you have dry humor , but that has been the lamest attempt to get people laughing really..

Firstly Khatija was not the first to witness Muhammed(saw)'s prophet hood , if you educated yourself further maybe then your comment would hilarious, and i wouldve died of laughter..A monk once seen the mark of an egg that was on his back when he was twelve and told him of prophecies told and advised the prophet of the greatness that awaited him..its pathetic how you describe a women to have half a brain , which concludes that all the females in your life sadly contain that same amount of stupidity you've stated..

The only assumption there is with regards to my religion, is your is silly assumptions, thinking you know Islam..

Its a poor and pathetic attempt

David Wood said...

Hi Aasiyah,

It was Muhammad who said that women are intellectually deficient (which is why the Qur'an declares that the testimony of a woman is only half as reliable as the testimony of a man).

As for Khadijah being the first witness of Muhammad's prophethood, Carlos is referring to when Muhammad supposedly received his first revelation and concluded that he was demon-possessed. He ran to Khadijah to hide from the demon, but Khadijah assured him that he was a prophet.

The problem, of course, is that, according to Muhammad, women are intellectually deficient. So why should anyone trust Khadijah?

As for the story of the monk and the mark on Muhammad's back, we can only regard this as silly nonsense. What monk would look at a mark on someone's back and declare him to be a prophet? Check the date on that story. No serious person in the world could take a late, obviously fabricated story as historical.

Aasiyah Sattar said...

No where in Islam be it the quraan, hadeeth or the sunnah of the prophet does it state that the prophet Muhammad, would say women are intellectually deficient.

The chaste and virtuous women of the Prophet's household were the teachers responsible for conveying and communicating to the people the norms and rules that concern the conduct of Muslims in their private lives.

Please do not try to test my knowledge of my religion by assuming you know more..I don't only my quraan, but i know the bible as well , but i could gladly embarrass you with proof that the Quraan is the word of God..Be it scientifically or spiritually..Fabricated ?? Let's not begin with the fabrication that's in the bible.

Aasiyah Sattar said...

David

As for your request for proof of dates and time of the Monk..

The prophet was born on the (2 August A.D. 570).

So the correct year would be (582)
When Muhammad was twelve years old, he accompanied his uncle Abu Talib on a mercantile journey to Syria, and they proceeded as far as Busra. The journey lasted for some months. It was at Busra that the Christian monk Bahira met Muhammad. He is related to have said to Abu Talib: Return with this boy and guard him against the hatred of the Jews, for prophesied greatness awaits your nephew."

Wow! You're saying this in the comment section of a post in which I quote your prophet saying that women are unreliable witnesses because of the deficiency of their minds! Here's the hadith you said doesn't exist!

Sahih al-Bukhari 2658—The Prophet said: "Isn't the witness of a woman equal to half of that of a man?" The women said: "Yes." He said: "This is because of the deficiency of her mind."

David Wood said...

Aasiyah said: "The prophet was born on the (2 August A.D. 570). So the correct year would be (582)."

You missed the point entirely. What's the date of the SOURCE of this story, Aasiyah. Note that this source is, according to you, reporting an event that occurred in 582. Now give me the date of the historical SOURCE of the story.

Aasiyah Sattar said...

David

I don't think that you know what Islam is and what muslims follow or believe, if you did you never debate a hadeeth with me. Neither would you ask me for date of the historical SOURCE of the story..So before i go any further could you enlighten me with the knowledge you have on Islam..I was taught to never ague with a fool.. When you do , I'll then give you my reason as to why i didn't answer your questions

David Wood said...

LOL! You're claiming to be an expert, but you have no clue what's in the hadith. You didn't even see that I quoted MULTIPLE hadith proving that Muhammad declared that women are intellectually deficient.

So you say one thing, Muhammad says the opposite. And I'm supposed to believe you, right?

Then you didn't even know what Carlos was talking about when he said that Khadijah was the first witness of Muhammad's prophethood, which means that you don't know even the most basic history of your prophet.

You instead turn to an obviously fabricate story about Muhammad's giant mole, and I already know that you don't know the source of this story. I ask you for the source so that, after you cite it, I can show you what else is found in the same source.

Waiting.

Really and you expect me to argue with you on this ?? It takes up unnecessary time, having to correct you that the hadeeth does not exist then educate you on the correct one which turns the whole conversation into a different direction..

So again the hadeeth is non existant

Aasiyah Sattar said...

None quote a 2658 narration out of 93 books i would list for you but my characters are limited

How can i not know about the first revelation ? The very essence that brought Islam into existence..

The story of the monk and the prophet is Islamic history and the life of the prophet..Yes maybe fabricated but its what we were taught ...So there is no SOURCE to whatever you looking to embarrass yourself again.

While we are at it, let me remind u that search as you may you will
not find within the covers of the Holy Qur'an even the name of Muhummed's
(pbuh) father or mother. You will not discover the names of his wives or the
names of his daughters, nor the names of his beloved companions.
Amazingly! though you will find a whole chapter dedicated to Mary, the
mother of Jesus Christ (pbuh) ... Sura Maryam, or Mary, chapter 19 of the
Holy Qur'an. Jesus (pbuh) is mentioned in this Book of God no less
than twenty-five times, whereas the name of the Prophet Mohammed (pbuh)
only five times.

I never claimed to be an expert , I'm just a muslim

____________________
After the angel had disappeared Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had clambered down the mountain as fast as he could run, not knowing if he was going mad and imagining things, or if he had been possessed by one of the jinn.

As she listened to Muhammad's words, Khadijah did not share any of these fears. She realized that something tremendous and awe-inspiring had happened to her husband, and she was certain, knowing him as she did, that he was neither mad nor possessed."Do not worry," she said, "for by Him who has dominion over Khadijah's soul, I hope that you are the Prophet of this nation. Allah would never humiliate you, for you are good to your relatives, you are true to your word, you help those who are in need, you support the weak, you feed the guest and you answer the call of those who are in distress."
_________________________

Please give close attention to the sentence , ' not knowing if he was going mad and imagining things, or if he had been possessed by one of the jinn.'

So, Muhammad in beginning tend to believe that either he had error in his head or he was possesed by jinn.

He could only be assured by testimony of a woman name Khadija ( Woman has deficient mind according to most authentic hadith Sahih Bukhari)convincing him that what he had saw was a divine thing and not demonic nor some sort of mental illnes.

My joke still stands, based on the fact after Hira cave experience Muhamad firstly believed he was either nearly demented or possesed, and thankfully Khadija (a person with deficient mind) convinced him that he was not.

It's like a conversation between two patients in mental institution ROFL!

Ehem... sorry Aasiyah I personally belief woman is equal with man.

Aasiyah said No where in Islam be it the quraan, hadeeth or the sunnah of the prophet does it state that the prophet Muhammad, would say women are intellectually deficient.

Really?

Sahih Bukhari 1:6:301 Once allah’s apostle went out to the Musalla (to offer the prayer) o ‘Id-al-Adha or Al-Fitr prayer. Then he passed by the women and said, “O women! Give alms, as I have seen that the majority of the dwellers of Hell-fire were you (women).” They asked, “Why is it so, O allah’s apostle ?” He replied, “You curse frequently and are ungrateful to your husbands. I have not seen anyone more deficient in intelligence and religion than you. A cautious sensible man could be led astray by some of you.” The women asked, “O allah’s apostle! What is deficient in our intelligence and religion?“ He said, “Is not the evidence of two women equal to the witness of one man?” They replied in the affirmative. He said, “This is the deficiency in her intelligence. Isn’t it true that a woman can neither pray nor fast during her menses?“ The women replied in the affirmative. He said, “This is the deficiency in her religion.”

bukhari 4:52:111 - allah's apostle said " If there is any evil omen in anything, then it is in the woman

Your " prophet " just called all woman including you deficient in intelligence, religion and evil.

You also said not test you because you know the Bible well and would gladly embarrass anyone with proof that the quran is the words of allah ( and not muhammad I suppose )..fabrications in the Bible..well I do hope you would do so.
