Italian Priest Paolo Dall’Oglio Killed by Rebels in Syria

Paolo Dall’Oglio supported the rebels in their quest to topple the Assad regime. The rebels executed him when he was no longer useful to their cause.

Paolo Dall'Oglio
BEIRUT—Al-Qaeda-linked rebels in Syria have killed an Italian Jesuit priest who disappeared in the east of the country late last month, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

Paolo Dall’Oglio, a vocal supporter of the uprising against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and some Islamist rebel groups, disappeared in the rebel-held city of Raqqa on July 29.

He had served for three decades at the Monastery of Saint Moses the Abyssinian, or Deir Mar Musa, before being expelled from the country in 2012. Since then he had returned to Syria at least twice.

The British-based monitoring group cited local activists in the city of Raqqa with close links to Dall’Oglio as saying he was killed while being held by fighters from the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).

It was not immediately possible to confirm the report.

The Observatory urged all Syrian opposition forces to pressure the ISIL fighters to reveal exactly what happened to Dall’Oglio “so his killers can be held to account, and to hand over his body for burial.”

Activists initially said he was kidnapped by the ISIL fighters, although some later said he had been meeting the Al Qaeda-linked fighters to agree a truce with Kurdish brigades.

He was instrumental in restoring Deir Mar Musa, whose cathedral houses an exquisite 11th century fresco of the Last Judgment. (Source)

So basically the gist is this: darkness was drawn in by darkness, made a covenant with darkness and in the end got screwed by darkness.

Lay down with dogs....

You might want to check your facts. The Free Syrian Army and the ISIS are two very different groups with different agendas. Keeping them strait shows respect for both Fr. Paolo and the Syrian people.

1. If Fr. Paolo was involving himself with entities to overthrow Assad it's irrelevant as to which group he associated himself with.

2. You need to read the article.

"Paolo Dall’Oglio, a vocal supporter of the uprising against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and some Islamist rebel groups, disappeared in the rebel-held city of Raqqa on July 29. "

3. ISIS? Did you mean ISIL? Free Syrian Army isn't mentioned here. Either way it doesn't matter because he was a supporter of the fighting and bloodshed. There's no excuse for that.

I smell a troll....

Dear Fr. Dall'Oglio: May your death be a wake-up call to us all.

Heartbreaking - because of both the tragic outcome itself and also the ignorance (or arrogance) that led to the tragic outcome. Was Fr. Paolo attempting some sort of 'liberation theology'?

But also a reminder to fools like me: "keep your eyes on JESUS..." and "a whip of cords is not a sword..." and "His Kingdom is NOT of this world...". Apostle Paul WARNED us about these other "gospels"...

But what am I doing to manifest the only real Gospel: the good news of Christ Jesus - His Cross and His Resurrection?

Rest in peace Paolo Dall'Oglio - even if you don't deserve it.

KAFIR AND PROUD!!

Sam shamoun debates asked 'Molly, is there a side you support?'

The guy was associating himself with terrorist organization including Al Qaeda after he was kicked out of Syria and she wants us to 'Respect' him and the 'Syrian' people (who I'm sure she doesn't know who they are but apparently standing in the country as a 'freedom fighter' (jihadist) is enough to qualify).
To me it's clear.
