Vancouver, Washington--A 55-year-old suspect in the stabbing of two people in a Starbucks coffee shop drive-thru at one of the busiest intersections in Clark County may have been motivated by religious extremism, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Scott C. Fandrich Appears in Court
Scott C. Fandrich of Ridgefield appeared Tuesday in Clark County Superior Court on suspicion of two counts of first-degree assault.
Judge Barbara Johnson set bail at $500,000. Fandrich is scheduled to be arraigned on the charges March 22. Vancouver attorney Jack “John” Peterson was appointed to defend him.
Fandrich wore an orange jumpsuit and limped into the courtroom. In a low voice, he mumbled answers to questions from Senior Deputy Prosecutor Camara Banfield.
Fandrich is accused of attacking Jerry Kush, who is either 70 or 71, just before 5 p.m. in the Starbucks drive-thru at 11502 S.E. Mill Plain Blvd., in Cascade Park, after the two had a conversation about religion, according to court records.
The affidavit said:
Hamza A. Shariati, 21, told police that he had met Fandrich at about 2 p.m. Monday to discuss religion. During their conversation at one of the cafe’s tables, Kush approached and chatted with Fandrich about cars and religion.
When Kush got up and left, Fandrich followed him out of the building, Shariati said. Then, Shariati said, he heard sirens.
Shariati told police that Fandrich had made statements in the past about “his willingness to die for Islam.” He said he knows that Fandrich “has conflicts with people.”
Kush was stabbed at least five times in the neck, abdomen and the side of the chest and had to undergo emergency surgery Monday night at PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center.
Bystanders tried to intervene and stop Fandrich, according to earlier reports by The Columbian. One of them, Jerry Nehnevaj, 49, was stabbed in the right lower leg when he attempted to grab Fandrich and pull him off of Kush, according to the affidavit. (Continue Reading.)

Muslim Convert Scott C. Fandrich Stabs Two People outside Starbucks after Discussion about Religion
There's certainly not enough information yet to determine what's going on here. But based on the information released so far, it seems (1) that Scott C. Fandrich is a Muslim who has announced his willingness to die for Islam, (2) that he was approached by Jerry Kush in Starbucks for a discussion "about cars and religion," and (3) that Fandrich followed Kush outside and stabbed him repeatedly. Fandrich could, of course, turn out to be a complete nut case. Or he could be yet another Muslim convert who realizes that Islam calls for the violent subjugation of non-Muslims. We'll see what the investigation reveals.

Nice....
Further proof Islam rots the brain, soul, heart.
The religion of piece.
Islam is the only "religion" where anyone who converts to it will become dangerous.
There is no other major religion where that happens.
Islam is a cult of violence...and the proof is ALLLLL over the news.
Do people actually think that the Crusades happened spontaneously, with no reason? They cost Christian countries a vast amount of money and manpower. You don't embark on such a venture unless you are convinced that your life is threatened. That the movement for action against islam took centuries to amass is testament to how slow Christian nations are to react to the power of evil. That they failed to extirpate islam is a great shame. That they ensure that Europe was able to continue on its Christian path is a great victory. We are now on the path towards another crusade; instigated by the very people who now declaim against it. If muslims were rational and civilised, there would be no need for a war against them. But they aren't and they don't want peace. So, with great reluctance, some time in the near future, we will once again have to subdue them. That's inevitable. It may be in a decade's time; it may be in a hundred year's time. But it will happen. What will not happen, though, is that we will completely remove this virus from the world and so, once we have conquered satans armies, some time later we will have to do the same once more.
Wheres Derrick with his logical fallacies to defend this guy?
You who! Derrick. We are anxious for your comment!
Islam appeals to homicidal sociopaths, as well as domestic violence abusers. That is why prisons are such fertile recruiting grounds for jihadists. Those locked up in prison for violent crimes have already proven themselves to be willing to rob/abuse/murder others for no reasonable intention except their own passionate interest. Such behavior is sanctioned in Islam and embraced by jihadists and their supporters to further their domination and control and plunder.
Christianity appeals to those who have or have had healthy bonds with others and understand the concept of loving others and oneself. They understand that there is give and take in healthy relationships, shoring each other up and protecting those more weak or vulnerable while having healthy boundaries. Such behavior is embraced by Christians in imitation of the God of the Bible.
Hey wait. What is going on here. We are supposed to be a society of religious tolerance. This man was simply displaying his religious viewpoint in a manner deemed necessary by the glory of Islam. Shouldn't we be applauding this brave Muslim for stabbing an unarmed man thereby demonstrating our own religious tolerance?
Islam is the religion of peace. I know this cause they told me so and they wouldn't lie, right? So, this Muslim was obviously feeling oppressed by his unarmed victim and needed to act in pure self-defense of his religion because his religion isn't strong enough to weather criticism. Makes sense, doesn't it?
Search for Truth said, "Wheres Derrick with his logical fallacies to defend this guy?
You who! Derrick. We are anxious for your comment!"
Don't you remember Search? He got mad at us, picked up his ball, and stomped home to go cry/sulk/pout/write a screwed up polemic the size of a doctoral dissertation.
His UN-exact words were 'I'm NEVER gonna speak to you again! You're MEAN because you called out my arguments and attempts to hide ad -hominem attacks inside my long posts!!"
That was the gist of it anyways...
I, for one, am looking forward to him never speaking to me again.
@ Deleting
Yeah I prefer never having to encounter his lies and logical fallacies again.
Arent we actually still waiting for an answer from him? LOL!
It isn't Islam. This guy is a nutcase who was dangerous before he ever heard of Islam. If you get to know Muslims on a personal basis, they aren't like him. I know quite a few and they are law-abiding individuals. Most of them are glad to talk about their religion because they think Americans are painting them all as sociopaths. Oh, wait... that's what we're doing, aren't we? Americans used to be proud of our tolerance for different religions. We should revive that.
Catlest: "It isn't Islam. This guy is a nutcase who was dangerous before he ever heard of Islam"
hmmm...okay.
Catlest: "If you get to know Muslims on a personal basis, they aren't like him."
Agreed.
Catlest:" I know quite a few and they are law-abiding individuals. "
And I know one that's in law school...top ten law school.
Catlest: "Most of them are glad to talk about their religion because they think Americans are painting them all as sociopaths. Oh, wait... that's what we're doing, aren't we?"
And here is where the argument derailed. Catlest, the issue isn't 'muslims are psycho'.
The issue is doctrine. The issue is always doctrine.
Western muslims speak for western muslims. They do not and will never speak for Islam. Your koran, hadith and sira speak for Islam.
This man, wack-job that he was, was still spot on when it comes to doctrine. His zeal is what your prophet would have expected.
Catlest: " Americans used to be proud of our tolerance for different religions. We should revive that."
Catlest, you're not being very tolerant of our views and here's why. In order for there to be tolerance there has to be known disagreement. I can't tolerate you if I don't know you don't believe the way I do and vice versa.
By the way, Scott Fandrich was NOT practicing tolerance but it seems you're trying to lump him into the 'tolerant' camp when clearly he was not.
No, America has practiced post-modernism and has looked the other way. That's really what you want. Stop critizing your religion and making you feel bad.
A question: are you tolerant when your muslims rips on christianity? What if your imam is doing it during his khutba? Will you walk out.
What we, as Americans, need to do is educate ourselves not by talking to a muslim (which nine out of ten don't even know what their religion teaches and thus is useless to learn anything other than fluff their imams give them) and start reading the sacred books of religions to see what they teach.
And unfortunately for Islam, no other religion (other than a real extreme buddhist sect and maybe a ba-hai faith) have a command to KILL non-believers!
I'm sorry to knock the soap box from underneath you, but it had to be done.
@ Catlest
I agree, we should have been more tolerant towards those Nazis. After all that was their belief. Arent all ideologies the same, therefor all deserve reverence and be allowed to impose themselves on us. Yeah, we were so wrong about those Nazis. Not all Germans were bad, Im part German. So we should have just tolerated their intolerance. How stupid of us. We should have had more relativists around back then.
Some of the converts to Islam are simply people inclined to violence and killing. Islam is their attempt to religiously justify their deadly desires and bring them to fruition.
I am Hamza Abdullah Shariati.
The information about what I said, is incorrect. The media completely lied.
