Libya (TheBlaze)--Mufti al-Sadiq al-Ghiryani, Libya’s supreme religious cleric, has issued a fatwa (religious edict) against a new United Nations document on women’s rights claiming it defies shariah law.
The document is to be signed by nations at the 57th session of the Commission on the Status of Women this month, according to the Associated Press.
The cleric’s bone of contention is that Islamic law favors witnesses for a divorce while the U.N. document mandates judicial involvement. Also a source of ire for the mufti is a provision in the U.N. document related to matters of inheritance, whereby it states that women are equal to men.
While Al-Ghiryani says his concern is that it places the full burden on women to equally share in household expenses, it is perhaps more likely that his concern lay in granting equal status for women.
Another verboten item that has upset the cleric relates to wording on sexual freedoms and the rights of children born out of wedlock, the AP reports.
With the wave of al-Qaeda operatives filling the vacuum left by Moammar Gadhafi’s ouster, it is likely that advancing the cause of women’s rights in Libya will become an increasingly uphill battle moving forward. (Source)

Libyan Cleric Issues Fatwa Against U.N. Women's Rights Document
But I thought that Islam was a fount of women's rights, and that Muhammad was one of history's greatest feminists. I'm starting to think that someone's not telling us the truth about Islam.

Okay. It's time for me to reveal what I've learned from all my years of studies at Al-Bhyyzzahrr University in Egypt regarding the boundless hatred of women from Muslim Clerics. This is just a synopsis from my forthcoming eBook: "Conflicted Muslim Clerics Who Wanted To Be Women But Wound Up Being Just Ugly" (TheArabAhab Press, Riyadh & Branson).
You would not BELIEVE how many pitiful Muslim males wanted to be women - and I don't mean just a "Mohammed (may Timon & Poomba be unto him) dressed like Aisha" kind of thing (hakuna matada).
So, while Muslim males cannot REPLACE females (females being necessary to out-breed everyone else for the sake of Allahu Ohynnkksmoor - SWT [Single White Transylvanian]), it is necessary to the Muslim males to DE-FEMINIZE women as much as possible so that the males who long to be females can substitute themselves into female roles. Toward this effect, women are forced to wear car-seat covers and are forbidden to learn the alphabet.
The result is tragic - if not unexpected. In Muslim nations, Muslim males can be found working in such roles as bank clerks and race-car drivers, where in normal societies, such roles are often filled by women.
And, in normal societies, men and women often develop emotionally rewarding and committed, heterosexual relationships. And sadly, in Muslim nations, Muslim males often choose only other Muslim males for relating (and I won't tell you here about the other things they do together [such as racing dump-trucks and secret oil-wrestling with 450 lb. swine] - you'll have to buy my ebook).
Its a reverse envy of the Freudian fraud that drives the Muslim Cleric's hatred of women. History will show that the fatwa from the Libyan Cleric in the article is just one more sad manifestering of their bottomless bile.
