Are Muslims Monotheists?

Muslims love to accuse other religious groups of idolatry, polytheism, shirk, etc. The Qur'an calls idolaters "the worst of creatures" (98:6) and even accuses Christians and Jews of associating partners with Allah (9:30). Indeed, Muslims are commanded to violently subjugate Christians and Jews because of our beliefs (9:29).

Apparently, Muslims are so busy accusing other people of idolatry, they haven't bothered to examine their own religion. The following video shows that Muslims have deified Muhammad. Thus, by their own standards, Muslims are idolaters and not true monotheists.

For more on Islam's deification of Muhammad, see the following articles:

Non-Christians are without God

Turks [Islamists] and Jews boast much of God and profess to have a better faith than we Christians. They say they cannot be wrong; for they believe in the one God, who created heaven and earth and everything. A faith such as this can certainly not be wrong, they think.
Christ, however, here concludes: "He who hates me hates my Father" [John 15:23]. Now since Turks and Jews hate Christ and persecute his word, they certainly also hate the God who has created heaven and earth, do not believe in him, and do not honour him. For Christ is this same one God [John 1:1-14].

Worshiping Christ the Man is no idolatry

It is correctly said that the human nature is worshiped, not in the abstract but in the concrete, because Christ is one person. Therefore it is impossible to worship God without worshiping the Man [God was manifested in the flesh. 1Tim 3:16].

From: What Luther Says by Ewald M. Plass; page 159.

@ BOB, who says "Worshiping Christ the Man is no idolatry"
Without Jesus idols in church,, does church exists ? its nothing but sentence of ignorance !

Worshiping the formless reality by unthought thought is the best kind of worship. But when one is not fit for such formless worship of God, worship of form alone is suitable. Formless worship is possible only for people who are devoid of the ego-form. Know that all the worship done by people who possess the ego-form is only worship of form.

We project ourselves into the idols and worship them because we do not understand true inward worship. Therefore, the Knowledge of the Self, which knows all, is Knowledge in perfection.

Worshippers of the (qualified or with form) and the (unqualified or without form) God reach the same goal. But the path of the (formless) is very hard and arduous, because the aspirant has to give up attachment to the body from the very beginning of his spiritual practice.

What Islam teaches is nothing but Ignorance, it follows n obey it.

Even Muslims are idolaters, worshiping black stone.

In your section about addressing a deceased person in prayer, I was wondering if you guys considered the implications of it to Roman Catholicism and the various Eastern Orthodox denominations? Not criticizing, but I was a little surprised to see you guys make an ingress in to that inter-Christian controversy. I thought, for instance, that a majority of your funding on ABN would have come from Christian groups that practice prayer to the saints.

What would be your response to a Muslim who counters these charges of idolatry with the Roman Catholic practice of seeking the intercession of Jesus' mother, Mary?

I was just wondering.

David Wood said...

I would respond by telling the Muslim to quit dodging the issue and to answer the question: Why do Muslims speak directly to Muhammad when they're supposed to be praying to Allah? If the Muslim wants to know about Catholic prayer habits, he can go ask a Catholic. But what Catholics do has absolutely nothing to do with Muslim prayers.

Indeed, you've only helped point out another Islamic inconsistency. A Muslim would consider addressing Mary during prayer to be utter idolatry. Yet the Muslim addresses Muhammad during prayer. So by the Muslim's own standards, he is an idolater.

ignatius said...

Well done, Sam and David.

I would like to see you tackle the issue from another angle. Franz Rosenzweig (as summarized by David P. Goldman, How Civilizations Die) claimed that Islam is only a parody of a monotheistic faith, not really monotheism, but monism, i.e. all the gods of Mt. Olympus combined into one, so to speak.

Allah is contrary to our Judeo-Christian God. Our God is in a covenant with his people, and to fulfil the covenant, He cannot merely do anything He wants. He limits His power for our sakes. The word "covenant" occurs in the Quran, but Muslims do not have an awareness of their being in a covenant as far as I can see. We are children of God; Muslims often depict themselves as servants/slaves of Allah, a deity who has no limits placed on Him. He's Zeus on steroids.

Would you agree with this?

I'd say: even if we're mistaken, our God isn't an egomaniac Sadist:

When the shackles are around their necks and the chains; they will be dragged in boiling water; then in the Fire they will be filled [with flame]. Then it will be said to them, "Where is that which you used to associate [with Him in worship]
other than Allah?"
- Sura 40 (71-74)

@JP Prasad

Christ's human nature is worshiped as per GOD'S WORD; not an artist's rendering of Christ.

Worshiping Christ the Man has nothing to do with "Jesus Idols in church" or "Projecting ourselves onto idol's" or "Formless worship" etc.

We should also be careful with things like "The Knowlege of the self, which know's all, is Knowlege in perfection" since this is a common theme in New Age teachings.

Any Human Being, Religion, or thing that elevates/ seeks to elevate itself by suppressing or bringing down another Human being and or religion is insecure, phoney, untrustworthy and outright false.

Christians claim that there religion is a continuation albeit a hybrid of judaism, hence they incoperate the tanakh ( old testament ) into there own scripture. They have FULL knowledge of the old Prophets, are fully aware of the old covenants, know the customs of the ancient prophets etc.

Islam/muslims on the other hand wants us to believe they are the true only religion worthy of recognition, Hence we have this nonsense about " all people / every human being were born muslims, and parents are the ones who mislead there children away from Allah ( a name attributed to god which was never mentioned in the tanakh or new testament ). ".
We also hear muslims say " To you o' muslims have I perfected your religion "
Then we hear " Do not befriend the jews or christians for they are friends with each other and have a evil heart ". This implies that muslims have good/ pure heart in which to rape, murder, steal plunder.

Every thing written in the quran is a summary of [ Islam is the best religion because we are better than the jews and christians, we don't eat pork they do, we don't drink alcohol they do, we have the more recent messenger, they are stuck in the past, we have the quran, a complete unadulterated text written by our god and passed down to our prophet through an angel. Christian cults and Eastern religions

Some Christian cults: a brief description

1. Roman Catholicism: insists that their encyclicals, creeds, papal bull's, etc. are required to correctly understand the scriptures (read the works of Luther for details).

2. Jehovah's Witnesses: Do not accept the Trinity. Jesus is not God the Creator but a created individual. They have their own translation of the Bible, The New World Translation, which has reinterpreted John 1:1 negating Christ as Creator.

3. Mormonism (the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints): their doctrine states that Jesus is the Son of Elohim and mary, brother to Satan, and approved as Saviour only after a vote of the Council of gods. The Book of Mormon considered equal in authority to the Bible.

4. Christian Scientists: deny the reality of sin and death and distort the truth of Christ's diety.

5. Seventh-day Adventism: founded on failed prophesy's concerning the return of Christ and many other failed prophesy's by the false prophet Ellen G. White.

These cults add to or take away from the Scriptures in both word and meaning. They can be quite subtle in that they use terms associated with Christianity, but will cause important points of the Scriptures to be degraded, removed from their proper context and position, changed in meaning or deleted altogether and replaced with their own homemade doctrines.

"You shall not add to the word which I command you, nor take anything from it..." Deut 4:2

Every word of God is pure... Do not add to his words, lest he reprove you and you be found a liar. Proverbs 30:5, 6

Destructive doctrines:

But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction. And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed. By covetousness they will exploit you with deceptive words; for a long time their judgement has not been idle, and their destruction does not slumber. 2Peter 2:1, 2

A tactic employed by some Christian cults to attract followers is by promising answers to questions about the future by means of prophesy and prophesying. But many of these prophesy's fail (except those that are just educated guesess) and are either swept under the carpet, or reinterpreted and THEN swept under the carpet.

Wolves in sheeps clothing

"Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits..." Mat 7:15

The standard procedure for checking the credibility of all prophets who claim to speak in God's name:

"And if you say in your heart, 'How shall we know the word which the Lord has spoken?'

"When a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, if the thing does not happen or come to pass, that is the thing which the Lord has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him." Deut 18:21, 22

This refers to EVERYTHING spoken by the prophet, not just things that could be rigged or educated guesses. Also, ANYTHING that contradicts God's word in the Bible should be cause for suspicion.

Eastern religions

Hinduism
This religion incorporates the doctrine of reincarnation* (Samsara) and good works/deeds (Karma) and determines that a person's deeds in this current incarnation determine his type of existence in the next. The only escape from these endless cycles is the attainment of 'nirvana' or the cessation of existence, ehither by good works, transcendental philosophic understanding, or ritualistic devotion to the god's.

Buddhism
The founder of this religion (Gautama 563-480 B.C) taught that nirvana could be achieved by an eightfold path of right beliefs, aspirations, speech, conduct, mindfulness, means of livelihood, endeavours, and meditation.

Animism

Mainly to do with the worship of nature and the spirit beings who control the processes of nature, and ancestor worship. It is a very old, mainly tribal religion and is found in all parts of the world with knowledge being passed on by tradition and word of mouth.

These last three religions are all in the same category of bing based on the doctrine of good works to gain righteousness by means of man's own wisdom, strength and authority.
In other words, man has become his own idol.

*Concerning the doctrine of reincarnation, God's word says...

And as it is appointed for men to die ONCE, but after this the judgement... Heb 9:27

The New Age (Age of Aquarius) Movement

The basic categories are:

Eastern mysticism:
Hindu,* Buddhist and Confucian philosophy.

Occult and mystery teachings:
Learning the secrets of the god's, mysteries of the universe, astrology.

Earth and nature:
The religious worship of the earth or "Mother Earth." Today's political green movement has the basic principles of earth worship in its foundations.

Astral:
Alien abductions, UFOs, life on other planets, astral travel, out of body experiences.

Health and prosperity:
Very popular in the business world; based on human potential to 'realize' ideas and personal 'empowerment.' Christian Science, Scientology (Dianetics).

Deceptive Christian groups:
Mormonism, Jehovah's witnesses, Seventh-day Adventist's.

Human potential teachings:
Incorporates some of the preceding philosophies and promotes the diefication of man.**

New Age terms and practices

These are refered to as:
Channelling, Cosmic consciousness, spirit guide, Altered state of consciousness, Visualization, Personal transformation and Self-realization.
The term "God" is used to describe a higher power that has many faces.

The world believes that any and all roads will lead to God, as demonstrated by the endless variety of religions, sects, cults, doctrines, rituals and traditions.

"...for wide is the gate and broad is the way to destruction, and therre are many who go in by it." Mat 7:13

*The Hindu concept that the world is an illusion contradicts the idea that we can have the knowlege that we are only an illusion, rendering Hinduism self-refuting.

**Man, who at the end of the day has no real power anyway, since he is here one minute and then gone the next.

Whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour that appears for a little time and the vanishes away. James 4:14

The New Age movement also includes the art of psychic, clairvoyant, fortune-teller...

a certain slave girl possessed with a spirit of divination met us, who brought her masters much profit by fortune-telling ...But Paul, greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, "I command you in the name of jesus Christ to come out of her.." and he came out of her that very hour. Acts 16:16, 17

...or soothsayer (soothsaying: to divine, practice divination. A seer, diviner), spiritual medium and astrologer who act as interpreter's or prophet's in the advice that they give but which is disguised behind a lot of ambiguity, generalizations and partial truths to give it legs; all of which has been around for a long time.

"Because you have spoken nonsense and envisioned lies, therefore I am indeed against you," says the Lord God. "My hand will be against the prophets who envision futility and divine lies..." Ezekiel 13:8, 9 [593-571 B.C.]

"Give no regard to mediums and familiar spirits; do not seek after them to be defiled by them; I am the Lord your God." Lev 19:31 [about 1440 B.C.]

"There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or daughter pass through the fire, or one who practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer [to do with drugs], or one who conjures spells, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. for all who do these things are an abomination to the Lord..." Deut 18:10-12 [about 1440 B.C.]

Sorcery in the Bible refers to the use of drugs whether simple or potent, accompanied by incantations and appeals to occult powers.

All of the arts mentioned above are designed to influence and draw us away from God and his truth, into disobedience, and will eventually destroy us if we get involved with them, which is why he considers them abhorant and vile. In trying to make contact with the deceased for example, we only end up communicating with an evil spirit who has knowledge of events which occured during the life of the deceased, and who will masquerade as the deceased.

And to give haphazard advice to someone on important issues, just to receive a payment is not right.

"And will you profane me among my people for handfuls of barley and for pieces of bread...?" Ezekiel 13:19

The advice given comes either from faulty human wisdom or the devil or both; but God's wisdom far exceeds any of it.

And in matters of wisdom and understanding about which the king examined them, he found them [men of God: Daniel, Hananiah etc.] ten times better than al the magicians and astrologers who were in his realm. Daniel 1:20

"For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts higher than your thoughts." Isaiah 55:9

The above doctrines and pilosophies and practices all belong in the category of idolatry.

"For not only the adoration of images is idolatry but also trust in one's own righteousness, works, and merits, and putting confidence in riches and human power. As the latter is the commonest, so it is also the most noxious idolatry."*

The "New Age" movement has been around for a long time. The devil simply gives it a new coat of paint for a contemporary look and attaches the alluring promise of 'harmless fun,' 'enlightenment,' and 'freedom' (which is the same empty promise that he originally offered to Adam) before wheeling it out for the next generation. This trick has always worked well, partly because man is never satisfied with the plain truth for long, but hungers after fantasy and myths with which to be entertained, and which the world is full of.

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. 2Tim 4:3, 4

"No heresy is so absurd that it does not find its hearers... Things so absurd were believed among the heathen, and all the world adhered to them. In short, the devil is the god of world, so the world accepts whatever this god inspires."**

A prediction [63-65 A.D.] which can be seen taking place today is:

The Spirit clearly says that in latter times some will abandon the faith, and follow decieving spirits and things taught by demons. 1Tim 4:1

False Christ's: a phenomena of the New Age movement

There are many people today, all over the world who claim to be Christ, but this is easily refuted with the following:

"Then if anyone says to you, 'Look, here is the Christ!' or 'There!' do not believe it. For false Christs and false prophets will arise and show great signs and wonders...
Therefore if they say to you, 'Look, he is in the desert!' do not go out; or, 'Look, he is in the inner rooms!' do not believe it.
For as the lightening comes from the east and flashes to the west, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be." mat 24:23-27

Music

Much of today's music (and film, books, art and the entertainment industry in general), lends itself to idolatry in respect to the way it puts anything and everything including the devil on a pedestal, while making no mention of God except to slander or misrepresent him to the hearer.

It is better to hear the rebuke of the wise than for a man to hear the song of fools. Ecclesiastes 7:5

Many are led astray by the song of fools..."for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction" (the highway to hell). And, "I did it my way" as opposed to God's way is the most common means by which we can find ourselves on this road to destruction.
Satan himself was the first one to perform this number and travel this road to his eternal ruin. And foolish Adam, the first man and also the first criminal, followed suit (but he was rescued by grace).
Music itself is good when it honours its Creator, but when used in the service of idolatry...

"Take away from me the noise of your songs, for I will not hear the melody of your stringed instruments." Amos 5:23

God is long suffering towards us, but it can only be a matter of time before...

"I will put an end to the sound of your songs, and the sound of your harps shall be no more." Ezekiel 26:13

The connection of psychology, psychiatry and sociology to the New Age movement

In general, the human behavioural sciences are based on evolutionary humanism, but with some practitioners also incorporating some of the elements of the New Age movement and pantheism.

Pantheism: any doctrine that regards regards God as identical with the material universe or the forces of nature; readiness to worship all or a large number of god's.

"Pantheism ...is neither true nor false; it is something much worse, viz. entirely trivial. We had little doubt that the universe was there anyway; by giving it a new name ("God") we explain nothing. We actually commit the venerable intellectual sin of Word Magic, wherein the naming of something is supposed to give added power either to the thing named or to the semantic magician himself." Montgomery, J .W., The Suicide of Christian Theology, Bethany, Minneapolis, MN, page 252, 1975

Big problems

The following quote from one of their own shows that many of these practitioners have more and greater problems than their clients.

"The average psychiatrist has more power to do harm in the lives of individuals than most religious leaders on earth... Moreover, it would be hard to find a more unhappy lot than those clustered in the mental health field. Especially among psychiatrists, suicide, depression, drug addiction and alcoholism are notoriously rife. Among non-medical mental health professionals, the situation doesn't seem much better. Not only are many mental health professionals unhappy but they do not live ethically inspired lives. Too many, for example, prostrate themselves before the psychiatric establishment." Peter R. Breggin, "Mental Health versus Religion," The Humanist 47 (Nov/Dec 1987): 13.

Any study of the human condition that is conducted through the lens of evolutionary humanism can only give an incomplete and distorted picture, because being a materialistic doctrine, it does not take the invisible soul and spirit into account. If this study of the human condition is also combined with elements of New age teaching then the picture will still be distorted since New Age teaching is itself full of fallible distorted human reasoning.

Human reason only teaches the outer man. God alone teaches the heart.

And since evolutionary indoctrination, humanism and New Age teaching denies Christ and his word, those trained in these things cannot see that all human problems came about and exist because of SIN. Before Adam sinned, everything was good...

Then God saw everthing that he had made, and indeed it was very good. Genesis 1:31

...and there was no death and disease or mental problems etc. until after he had disobeyed God.
