Afghan Women Protest 100-Lash Sentence for 16-Year-Old Rape Victim

But to protest the 100-lash sentence is to protest Islam. According to the Qur'an (24:2), the penalty for fornication is 100 lashes. In order to accuse someone of a sexual sin (such as rape), the accuser must produce four male witnesses (Qur'an 24:4). If the accuser can't produce four male witnesses, the man can't be charged with rape. And if he can't be charged with rape, the girl is stuck with her admission that illicit sex has taken place (which she admitted when she accused him of rape). Hence, she will be given 100 lashes for fornication. Welcome to Sharia.

Depending on this girl's size, 100 lashes could very well kill her. Some 16 year old girls are no bigger than a child. They each grow at different rates. To have an across the board penalty for all is liken to murder. What if she was 10, or 5? Would she even then still be considered a seductress? Probably.

Afghan women show that they have a spine - that's good. But how about hundreds more —make that thousands more, tens of thousands more — all out protesting to bring Karzai and his shameful Sharia-law government to the forefront of world attention.

Individually, Afghan women risk a lot by protesting for basic rights. But collectively their voice will have impact.

As usual in such cases, it is the weakest and lowest member of society who is punished. Shame on Karzai, shame on his government, and shame on the "manly" Taliban who mete out their brutal form of "justice" on a lowly female.

I am sorry for the young girl. I am also glad that some Afghani women took the courage to speak against it. It is the good in these women that made them speak against their own barbaric quranic teachings. I wonder what will happen to these women who have spoken against this barbaric sentence. Will their moslem husbands now beat them and banish them from their beds since these women went against the teachings of Mohammad.

I wonder about this protest, as good as it is, if these women would have come out if the girl raped was a Christian girl? There are hundreds of Christian girls raped in Pakistan every year and not one moslem would even say a word about it.

But then we are told by Mr. Osama Obdallah that Islam came to rescue women.

Did you guys see how many police walking next to the marching women?!!!!

They know that without huge police presence those women will be attacked.

Once the Taliban come back ... you will see no women marching anywhere

This observation needs to be repeated:

The strength of Islam is women. Yes there are some that will cry out against these abuses, but when is the last time you heard of an "honor" killing where the mother tried to protect her daughter? You can't change these things without changing the koran - and that aint gonna happen!

Maybe President Obama will show his support for this girl by offering her some contraception. Everyone knows that birth control pills are the solution to the oppression of women in the world.

4 male witnesses huh? think of the implications of that... If there was 4 male witnesses shame on those bastards for not doing anything... And in america the 4 males would be charged as being part of the act itself, rape is sickening much less being watched while being subdued helplessly! but lets not make a charicature or movie of mohammad....... The Lord and Saviour JESUS CHRIST WILL, I REPEAT WILL COME BACK IN JUDGEMENT!!!!
