Ohio Prison System Working Towards Sharia Compliance

Again and again, non-Muslims learn that we must adapt to Islamic rules and regulations. Anything else would be "racist" and "intolerant."

A decision by Ohio officials to remove all pork products from prison menus in response to a lawsuit by Muslim inmates is not sitting well with the state's pork producers and processors.

Both promise action of their own, including a possible counter lawsuit, to address what they consider an unfair and illogical decision.

"We really think it's not in the best interest, frankly, of the whole prison system," said Dick Isler, executive director of the Ohio Pork Producers Council. "It seems like we're letting a small group make the rules when it really isn't in the best interest of the rest of prisoners."

Pork is inexpensive and nutritious and compares well to other lean meats, he said.

Ironically, the inmates' lawsuit doesn't involve pork at all; it demands that non-pork meats like beef come from animals slaughtered according to Islamic law. But the prisons system responded by simply removing pork as an option altogether.

If Ohio would provide Muslim inmates with pre-packaged meals similar to those given to Jewish inmates, as the lawsuit requests, it wouldn't be necessary to remove pork from menus, said David Singleton, executive director of the Ohio Justice and Policy Center, which is suing on behalf of the two inmates.

Assistant prisons director Steven Huffman has spoken with Isler, but the system isn't changing its mind, spokeswoman JoEllen Smith said Wednesday. (Read more.)

So those who break the law and in the process possibly take privileges away from others get to make new laws, and in the process have privileges awarded to themselves. While at the same time take away the privilege of another inmate enjoying the other white meat or some yummy bacon...oh, i see..that makes perfect sense.

The Muslim wants to eat halal meat and the Jew wants his kosher. What's the problem? I understand Christianity has no rules or regulations as you are free to sin all you want since an innocent man died for you, but please don't be jealous.

I'm pretty sure if David changed religions half of you would follow his path like puppies.

I am morally against veal. One time one of my friends gave me some of his leftovers to eat and intentionally didn't tell me it was veal until I had already eaten it. I was pretty mad. I got over it though. Eating veal is "not a sin" for me.

I can understand if someone fed a Muslim pork and didn't tell them. Surely there are other choices in prison other than pork for any given meal. I'm sure prison food is not like going to a buffet or anything, but to just take pork off the menu for everyone is wrong.

On the other hand, these people are in prison for committing crimes. Maybe they should only make the Muslims eat pork and withhold it from the other prisoners...nah.

I think the next thing they will ask for is a funded hajj trip

Kim "Christianity has no rules or regulations as you are free to sin all you want since an innocent man died for you, but please don't be jealous."

Wow. You really don't understand Christianity at all. Just like you claim people here don't understand Islam.

Again with the jealousy. I'm absolutely sure jealousy is not a factor. What would we be jealous of exactly?

"I'm pretty sure if David changed religions half of you would follow his path like puppies."

I'm not religious. I don't follow him like a puppy. If you've at all been reading my posts, you'll see I disagree with him from time to time. i.e.: I think for myself.

So answer me this: why should pork be taken off the menu completely for all the prisoners whether they are Muslim or not? As you say, can't the Muslims and the Jews both eat their inhumanely slaughtered meats and leave the non-Muslims and non-Jews alone?

Huh????

Go to youtube and look up 'how halal meat is prepared'.
Keep a trash can nearby. You'll want to throw up.
As for 'free to sin' part....you've never read the bible.

And you're last part: I became a christian long before I ever knew who David Wood, James White or anyone on this board. Proably long before your 'reversion' to islam probably.

Once again, thank you for demonstrating your beligerant ignorance.

Kim, the problem is that the decision has effected (if I read the article correctly)everyone, not just Muslim and I cant help but see the problems with this, prisoners shouldnt be denied something simply because a minority refuse it.

Also, way to be silly about Christianity and waht it tea.

@Kim
I agree you that I have no problem that Muslim want to eat Halal meat because Jews eat Kosher meal, too !
Jesus is an innocent man AMEN! He choose to die for us and you because he love his people.
"If David changed religions, so half of us would follow his path like puppies" I disagree! I know we are independent thinking. Nice try, Kim.

I do not want to give up for eating pork. I love a geniue mexican taco with Al Pastor meat. I do like to eat pork. If I am prisoner and Ohio state stop to give the pork to inmate and me behalf on just two Muslim guys, I would complain for discriminating for my freedom of expression.

Kim, I disagree with David all of the time. I mean, he allows me to say what I want, so all of the times I have disagreed with him, are right out here. It might be that you have just started reading Answering Muslims that you haven't noticed who we are. My brothers state that as a child, I was just plumb disagreeable.

But you should know that as a Christian, I am taught that it is not what I eat that makes me a sinner. It isn't what goes into me, but what comes out of me that contaminates me.

Matthew 15:8-13
8 ‘These people honor me with their lips,
but their hearts are far from me.
9 Their worship is a farce,
for they teach man-made ideas as commands from God.’[a]”
10 Then Jesus called to the crowd to come and hear. “Listen,” he said, “and try to understand. 11 It’s not what goes into your mouth that defiles you; you are defiled by the words that come out of your mouth.”
12 Then the disciples came to him and asked, “Do you realize you offended the Pharisees by what you just said?”
13 Jesus replied, “Every plant not planted by my heavenly Father will be uprooted,

Ephesians 4:29
29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

James 3:8-11
8 but no one can tame the tongue. It is restless and evil, full of deadly poison. 9 Sometimes it praises our Lord and Father, and sometimes it curses those who have been made in the image of God. 10 And so blessing and cursing come pouring out of the same mouth. Surely, my brothers and sisters, this is not right! 11 Does a spring of water bubble out with both fresh water and bitter water?

Deleting,

How is halal meat prepared? I can't watch a video. I am a vegetarian, and very squeemish about watching butchering and accidents and things like that.

Just describe it to me. What is the difference between a halal butchering and a normal westernized butchering?

the animals bleed to death as opposed to regular slaughterhouses that stun the animal, knocking it out so it doesn't feel anything.

donna60 said...

Okay, then could someone explain to me how stunning an animal makes it unclean, according to Islam? I honestly don't understand.

Not that I am an expert. I am revolted by butcheries. When I was a girl, I watched my daddy chop off the heads of chickens, and they hopped all over the back acre. when they finally fell over, my brothers walked around picking them up, and my mother defeathered them by dipping them in boiling water.

I am pretty sure that this is one of the causes of my revulsion towards eating meat.

Because it's about ceremony.
Now, to be fair, I love my jewish brother and sisters in humanity but kosher preparation for meats I believe goes through the same thing. If Nakdimon or someone else jewish knows differently please post it and accept my humble apologies.
They slit the animals throat while its still alive and let it bleed out. I think they pretty much say an islamic blessing over it (ahem...meat sacrificed to idols...this ringing a bell in anyone's mind???) and send it out.
Kosher prep is different and in kosher meat can not touch dairy of any kind, so things like a turkey and swiss cheese sandwich isn't kosher because of the cheese and meat, but i'm not too sure about that.
Regardless, I'm a carnivore but given islam propitiates idolatry by elevating a dead man as necessary for salvation I'll take kosher anyday over halal. Yes, greater is he who is in me than he who is in the world but islam is demonic enough as it is and i just want no part of it.
BOYCOTT HALAL!
