Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper Says "Islamicism" Is Biggest Threat to Country

Wait a minute. Isn't the real threat Islamophobia?

In an exclusive interview with CBC News, Prime Minister Stephen Harper says the biggest security threat to Canada a decade after 9/11 is Islamic terrorism.

In a wide-ranging interview with CBC chief correspondent Peter Mansbridge that will air in its entirety on The National Thursday night, Harper says Canada is safer than it was on Sept. 11, 2001, when al-Qaeda attacked the U.S., but that "the major threat is still Islamicism."

"There are other threats out there, but that is the one that I can tell you occupies the security apparatus most regularly in terms of actual terrorist threats," Harper said.

Harper cautioned that terrorist threats can "come out of the blue" from a different source, such as the recent Norway attacks, where a lone gunman who hated Muslims killed 77 people.

But Harper said terrorism by Islamic radicals is still the top threat, though a "diffuse" one.

"When people think of Islamic terrorism, they think of Afghanistan, or maybe they think of someone in the Middle East, but the truth is that threat exists all over the world," he said, citing domestic terrorism in Nigeria.

The prime minister said home-grown Islamic radicals in Canada are "also something that we keep an eye on." (Read more.)

oh......... he understood it so quickly........Plenty of peole like brother David, Sam Shamoun and brother Nabeel have been telling this and what were people like PM Stephen doing ? were they sleeping ? no need to wake up baby... why are you waking up. you woke up so quickly. Sleep sleep baby. It is still night. Not morning. sleep sleep. If terrorists destroy your country, whats your problem. you have no problem. you will remain in your safe house with so much money and comfort. All normal people like me / us will suffer. Not you political leaders. so keep sleeping. whats the problem if we suffer. we are just insects in the view of you political leaders.

And one thing -- if home grown terrorists are not enough then please invite other from middle east or Afganistan Pakistan.

huh

is this a dream or true ? that he( PM ) really understands the problem.

WAIT A MINUTE! This is, merely, more Islamophobia!

Just like the other day at Rye Playland amusement park when the Muslims rioted when the Muslim women were told that they could not enter the roller coaster rides wearing their hijabs so they wouldn't wring their own scrawny little necks when the material got caught up in the gears.

The next thing you know the park officials will tell the suicide bombers that they can't wear explosive vests onto the rides.

MORE ISLAMOPHOBIA!!!

Thank God that he understands that. now what are you going to do after understanding this ?

i suggest you something on behalf of Mr Geert wilders -

first 2 videos are about what non-muslims should do( according to Mr Geert wilders ). And I support that fully.

4th video is about what a british muslim is planning

I am so pround to be a Canaidan. Stephen Harper came out and said the "I" word "Islamic teerorism". Of course the CBC will try to spin this as Islamphobia as the worst kind.
But I do have a question for all my American friends when; When will Barak Husien Obama use the "I" word will he continute to blame Bush?

Ugh. Here we go with the "Barack Hussein Obama" stuff. As soon as a person uses his middle name it's pretty obvious where they stand.

Also, I'm tired of the "you can't blame Doubya anymore" track. We couldn't blame Doubya back in the day either because we were labeled "unpatriotic" if we did. Apparently we can't blame Doubya now because it's Obama's mess now. Incidentally those same people who told me I was unpatriotic then are apparently free to criticize Obama all day long. Two words: Double Standard!

If you're one of those "birthers" who still thinks Obama was born in Kenya or that he has some "secret Muslim agenda" or wants to "give blacks reparations" or "won't say the Pledge of Allegiance"... I got a few websites for you to check out: mainly PolitiFact.org and FactCheck.com for starters. If you think he's "soft on Muslims and Islam", that's a fair argument. If you say he's a "secret Muslim"... I say he's not a very good one.

http://thepoliticalcarnival.net/2010/08/24/if-president-obama-is-a-muslim-he-sure-is-a-bad-one/

I believe donna proved in the last thread that so was Doubya in his own moronic way... soft on Islam that is. Obama may have bowed to the Saudi King (which he also did to the Japanese Ambassador) but Bush held the Saudi King's hand and kissed him on both cheeks!

Now I'm not saying don't criticize Obama. Fine. Whatever. That's your right. But turnabout is fair play. Don't tell me I can't still criticize Doubya. And don't tell me he didn't leave a stinky dirt sandwich mess for his successor... whether it was going to be Obama or McCain.

"To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public." -Teddy Roosevelt-

Sorry. I'll get off my soapbox.

Sorry I meant PolitiFact.com and FactCheck.org in the last post.

As an Armenian, my grandparent was taken away before killing his parent by Muslim Turks, as the world turns ... I was born in Iraq, in turn, as a Christian again Muslim target Christians there and now I am in the West. How many generations it will take until Chritians and non-christians will be persecute? ... Baron eddie you are right, i posted somw comments about what happened on armenia on "obama and islam article" and about irak you are right too, the worst part is that no muslim can say they are doing wrong persecuting christian, because the quran and hadiths support such acts....

i'm pretty sure almost all musilms are going to take it as islamophobia when in fact this isn't the case here. i dare anyone to deny that every al-qaida activity hasn't been motivated by their interpretation of what islam is teaching them. Misguided maybe but the radical groups are openly doing this and always prove it by leaving video and audio proof after the attacks. But apparently we're not suppose to use the word islam in relation to their senseless hatred and violence.

Angelo @ September 6, 2011 11:14 PM, what the heck are you talking about? Please specify exactly what Harper has done or not done that would justify the accusation that he has been "sleeping"?

My Two Sense,

Probably this is a bad place to talk about politics. My preacher told me that talking about politics can get in the way of the gospel.

I was born into a Democrat family who thought Franklin Roosevelt was right up there with Peter and Paul and John the baptist, and I was told all my life by grandparents from both sides that only Democrats could get to heaven because they were the ones that cared about poor people.

Right now I am nothing. I don't believe either party is concerned with righteousness at the moment, and probably hasn't been for a long, long time. Listening to either Conservatives or Progressives either tickles my funny bone, or causes me a gag reflex, depending on what rubbish is coming out of their mouths on any given day.

For the record, the kingdom of heaven speaks for itself.

Bartimaeus,

Okay, I am about to break the advice I just gave to My Two Sense, (so My Two Sense, I am sorry--ignore what I just said)

Don't be bragging about being a Canadian to me. Because in Canada, it is against the law to speak out against homosexuality.

Against the ever-loving-law! Freedom of speech and religion in Canada is DOA. That means "Dead Upon Arrival!"

My Two Sense said...

Donna. This may not be "the right place" to talk about politics, but some of the videos posted on this blog contain such titles as "Obama and Islam" and some posts on here are peppered with "stupid liberal" comments, etc. I am only responding to those things.

Thanks for the advice.

My Two Sense said...

BTW... a lot of the arguments on here are about "Political Islam", so a lot of the conversations seem to blur between politics and religion anyway.

Oh yeah, being an agnostic and secular person myself, I consider myself on the same position on religion that you consider yourself on politics.

My Two Sense,

Well this probably the wrong time to talk about to religion, but I gave up on denominational Christianity decades ago.
