The Christology of the Old Testament

In this video I discuss Christology (the doctrine of Christ) in the Old Testament with Dr. Jonathan McLatchie.  Muslims believe Jesus is the Messiah or the Christ or in Arabic, al-Masih. However, while Jesus is given the title of Messiah in the Qur’an, the Qur’an shows no knowledge of the meaning of this word. One of the reasons is that the messianic office of Jesus in the Qur’an is obscured and the title of Messiah appears to be just another name for Jesus. The background to  who Jesus really is, and what He has done, is the Old Testament itself.  Jesus taught that the Old Testament pointed to Him,

"And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself…Then he said to them, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.”  Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures"  (Luke 24:27, 44-45).

Many of the teachings found in the New Testament concerning the deity of Christ, the Triune nature of God, and the distinction between the Persons of the Trinity, are all found in embryonic form in the Old Testament. This is the reason why the Old and New Testaments compliment each other and are organically connected.
