Imam Suhaib Webb Apologizes for Demonizing ISIS

Apparently, some Western Muslim leaders are warming up to the Islamic State.

Suhaib Webb is a convert to Islam and the imam at the Islamic Society of Boston Cultural Center.

Webb had been mocking ISIS, but he recently had a change of heart. Here's what he wrote:
Suhaib Webb
ECI—“Accountability is a lighthouse when the fog of life sets in.”

These days are hard. From Gaza, Ferguson and ISIS, it is difficult to have insight into where the world is today. That question is important. But of more importance is asking where it is now. After all, the answer to that question, is the answer to the first one. However, there are times when the fog of the future blinds us from seeing the demands of today.

I woke up the other day and decided to skim through my body of work over the last few years. Boy was I surprised at some of my posts and talks – the tone and the demonization of others – I compared ISIS to Ebola.

While I don’t agree with ISIS, al-Qāida, certain progressives and others, I‘ve decided to apologize to anyone that I have spoken ill towards or demonized. I ask Allah to forgive me and to guide me to observe better character in the future. I asked myself, “Suhaib did you forget the 49th chapter of the Qur’an, Surah al-Hujurāt?” (Continue Reading.)
The appeal to Surah 49 is disturbing, because the most relevant verse (given Webb's comments) is this:
Qur'an 49:11—O ye who believe! Let not a folk deride a folk who may be better than they (are), nor let women (deride) women who may be better than they are; neither defame one another, nor insult one another by nicknames. Bad is the name of lewdness after faith. And whoso turneth not in repentance, such are evil-doers.
Think about that. Muslims aren't supposed to insult other Muslims, because the other Muslims might be better than they are. Is Suhaib starting to wonder if Islamic State jihadists are better than Muslims living comfortably in the United States? Actually, that's exactly what Allah declares:
Qur'an 4:95—Not equal are those of the believers who sit (at home), except those who are disabled (by injury or are blind or lame, etc.), and those who strive hard and fight in the Cause of Allah with their wealth and their lives. Allah has preferred in grades those who strive hard and fight with their wealth and their lives above those who sit (at home). Unto each, Allah has promised good (Paradise), but Allah has preferred those who strive hard and fight, above those who sit (at home) by a huge reward.

Did I not say that as soon as the US and Allies started bombing ISIS the tone of the western Muslims would change in favor of ISIS.

BTW did you know that Suhaib Webb used to the the Imam at the Mosque in Oklahoma where the Oklahoma be-header went?

YES!
NOW WE GET TO SEE WHAT MODERATE ISLAM IS TRULY ABOUT IN REALITY!

“The only peace and tolerance Islam delivered is to the dead!”

“We must stop enabling this death cult known as Islam!

“Islam is an Ideology of death not a religion!”

David Ford, read Surah 2:106. Your obvious answer is there. The thing with abrogation is this: whenever two ideologies seem to clash i.e. be at peace with non Muslims OR fight non Muslims, then look for the one that comes later CHRONOLOGICALLY. If you don't know already, the Quran is not arranged chronologically like the Bible, but rather in order of length of the chapters. Look up wikipedia for the chronology, and find that the violent and long Surah 9 comes way after the more peaceful Surah 2, and hence abrogates the peaceful verses in Surah 2.

Yup, its so quite evident that there is truly no such thing as a "PEACEFUL" or moderate muslim....Its just a matter of time when the teeth are shown and rise up to take a bite out of any group around them. MUSLIM is not a religion. It is an abhorent attack on peace loving people around the world. No one believes as they do for the past 1,300 years!!!

ISLAM is not a religion. It is a gathered way of death and destruction to all who will not abide by 1000's of years of debauchery and stupidity
Still kills me that muslims think its okay for mohammed to fuck a 9 year old girl!!! Rape and child molestation and perversion is just fine to muslims

[Dacritic]"the Quran is not arranged chronologically…, but rather in order of length of the chapters. Look up wikipedia for the chronology"

Sorry, I don't consider Wiki to be terribly reliable. Who says what the chronology is?-- how is chronology determined?

What came first: Sura 9:5, or 9:6?

Are you familiar with Quranic Geography?

[Dacritic]"read Surah 2:106"

What came first: Surah 2:106, or 15:9?

Surah 15 is a Meccan Surah, so it's earlier than Surah 2.

But why are you bringing up 9:6? You're not buying the Zakir Naik spin on that verse are you? Read Ibn Kathir's commentary on it.

[David Wood]"Surah 15 is a Meccan Surah"

How do you know-- how did you come to that conclusion?

What do you think of Quranic Geography?
http://searchformecca.com/

"why are you bringing up 9:6?"

Because it seems to me that the verse of the sword, 9:5, contradicts 9:6. Perhaps 9:5 is an interpolation, i.e. something added to Sura 9 well after 9:5 was written.
"You're not buying the Zakir Naik spin on that verse are you?"
Not that I know of, as I don't know what his spin is on that verse.
I read material on 9:5 and 9:6 at
http://www.qtafsir.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=2580&Itemid=64
and the 2 verses still appear contradictory to me. Perhaps I'm missing something.

David Ford, are you just going to keep asking "Why?" and "How do you know" after everything anyone says, as if we have nothing better to do than answer you?

For instance, I pointed out that Surah 15 is a Meccan Surah (as you could have read in any chronology of the Qur'an). Your response? "How do you know-- how did you come to that conclusion?"

If I say, "Because according to the Hadith and commentaries, when Muhammad received a verse of Surah 15, he ran to Khadijah and told her, and she died in Mecca, which means the Surah was revealed in Mecca," are you just going to say, "And how do you know that?"? And when I say, "Because I read it," are you just going to say, "But how do you know that you read it?"? And when I say, "Because I remember reading it," are you just going to say, "And how do you know you remember it?"? This is getting old already.

You say there's a contradiction between 9:5 and 9:6. I have no idea how you can say this if you've read the commentaries. 9:5 is about pagans who had already heard about Islam and refused to convert. They are warned that they have a few months, and then they will be killed wherever they are found. 9:6 is about seekers (and messengers as well) who want to hear about Islam. They are to be escorted to a place of safety after they are told about Islam. Why would they need an escort? BECAUSE MUSLIMS WERE COMMANDED TO KILL IDOLATERS IN 9:5. IN OTHER WORDS, SINCE MUSLIMS ARE COMMANDED TO KILL IDOLATERS, IDOLATERS NEED AN ESCORT IF THEY WANT TO HEAR ABOUT ISLAM. Otherwise, they would be killed by any random Muslim.

At this point, I'm guessing you're going to say, "And how do you know that?" At which point I'll say, "Because instead of asking questions all day, I actually sit down and read."

Webb, who is from Oklahoma, was the former imam at the Okla. city Mosque where the beheader worshiped. This past week, Sean Hannity and Megyn Kelly interviewed an anonymous ex member of that mosque who related conversations he had with Webb about the 3 choices Muslims were to offer non-Muslims (convert-pay Jizya or die).

[David Wood]"are you just going to keep asking 'Why?'"

I don't recall asking 'why,' and dislike using the word.
Perhaps I'm being confused with someone else.

"and 'How do you know' after everything anyone says"

No-- only after certain statements.

"as if we have nothing better to do than answer you?"

What you do with your time is up to you.
What others do with their time is up to them.

If I ask a question, the asking makes it much more likely that I'll come across an answer to that question. Perhaps another person will answer my question, and perhaps I will answer my own question as I do more investigation.

"If I say… are you just going to say, "And how do you know that?"?"

Maybe, maybe not.

"And when I say, 'Because I read it,' are you just going to say, "But how do you know that you read it?'?"

No. I'm going to say:
Did you read it in the Imam Muslim hadith? The al-Bukhari hadith? Are there any commentaries considered by Muslims to be more reliable than those two hadiths?

"You say there's a contradiction between 9:5 and 9:6. I have no idea how you can say this if you've read the commentaries."

All I looked at was 1 commentary by the one person whose name you mentioned to me.

"At this point, I'm guessing you're going to say, 'And how do you know that?' At which point I'll say, 'Because instead of asking questions all day, I actually sit down and read.'"

I don't believe everything I read, and I doubt you do either.
I read today that after al-Bukhari got buried, gleams of light were observed rising from his grave toward the heavens. I also read today that a sweet, aromatic odor came from his grave's dust.

I cannot believe Suhaib Webb backpedaled. ISIS are not Muslims, that's a fact. They are using the religion to hide their personal warped agenda. Suhaib Webb just proved how dangerous ISIS and Muslims are in general. He backpedaled because he is scared for his safety and the safety of his family. How many Muslims in America or Europe secretly support and agree with ISIS? More than a handful I am sure. Suhaib Webb should have never backpedaled. ISIS and their supporters are not Muslims
