This story should be balanced with all the stories you hear about christians beating the crap out of people who leave christianity for atheism, islam, and other religions.

Oh wait....there are no stories.

Oops,sorry.

I've had any number of brain-dead lieberals tell me that Turkistan is the model "moderate" islamic state. Fools all.

Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan's infamous quote on Islam:

"These descriptions are very ugly; it is offensive and an insult to our religion. There is no moderate or immoderate Islam. Islam is Islam and that's it."

According to Pew polling, only 5% of the Muslim population of Turkey believe that apostates should be killed. This is the lowest of any of the Muslim countries they polled. (For comparison, Pakistan, Egypt and Jordan are up in the 70's and 80's.)

This story shows that 5% is more than enough for ex-Muslims to be persecuted. We should not be comforted that it's "only" 5%.

This is quite lower than I would have expected; but as you imply, it is still too high. Turkey has been a more secular country for many years, if I recall correctly, since 1924 and has increasingly become a more secular and democratic Republic. It is not Islamic in terms of its government, but has leaned more towards Islamic principles in the last few years.

The call to fight for a worldwide caliphate by Osama bin Laden has changed the Muslim world to pre 1924. Now every Muslim has to be involved in fighting jihad either physically or by other means e.g. dawah and Taqiya etc. The Saudi and other wealthy Middle Eastern government are all involved in providing finance to get the message across to all Muslims and non Muslims who support Islam. For the Muslims, the fight is on and there is no looking back and there are no longer any genuine moderate Muslims.
But this has also lead to more Muslims finding out what the real Islam is and many are leaving Islam after knowing what it really is. the ones that are accepting Christ like this boy are shaming us because they love him with all their heart and are ready to lay their live down for him. Christians please encourage the new converts and also learn from them what we should already know but take for granted.

Turkey is and always has been an islamofascist state. Church bells may not be rung, nor the shofar sounded, but the daily call to prayer blasts out 5 times a day, every day of the week. Only officially sanctioned types of Christianity are allowed to found churches. No one has ever brought to justice for the two synagogues blown up in Turkey. Persecution is still persecution, no matter how moderate that persecution is.

I know exactly what this christian family is going thru. Coming from a Moslem country myself, I have experienced persecution first hand at the hands of Moslems.

Besides murder, another pillar of Islam is to persecute other religions especially Christian and Jews. May God prevent this religion to take root in our western society. May God protect us from such evil.
