Yes, It's Yet Another Cartoon Controversy (Care to Guess Which Religion's Followers Are Throwing a Tantrum?)

Muslims keep telling us that Muhammad was just a man. And yet Muslims have far more reverence for him than they have for God.

I (foolishly) thought the cartoon controversies would die out after "Everybody Draw Muhammad Day," but it seems there are still plenty of Muslims to get angry over silly cartoons. Interestingly, if Muslims hadn't complained, far less people would have seen the cartoon of Jesus and Muhammad having a drink. By bringing the media into the discussion, millions of people have now seen it:

Sunnis are blowing up Shias, and vice versa. Ahmadis are being slaughtered in Indonesia. Christians are being persecuted by Muslims in Egypt, Iraq, and Pakistan. Muslims from around the world are calling for the annihilation of Israel. Teenage girls are being butchered by their fathers and brothers over Muslim "honor." Wives are being beaten in the name of Surah 4:34. Terrorist groups are plotting their next attack. And Muslims in the UK are complaining about . . . a cartoon.

Islam: The Religion of Odd Priorities.

DAILY MAIL--A row has erupted over an atheist society at a top London University posting a cartoon sketch featuring the prophet Muhammad having a drink with Jesus on its Facebook page.

A student Muslim group is demanding the 'offensive' image of Jesus and Mo having a drink at the bar, taken from an online satirical sketch, be removed from the social networking site.

The president of the Atheist, Secularist and Humanist society at the prestigious University College London (UCL), Robbie Yellon, has stepped down over the controversy.

But the Society still refuses to take down the image - claiming its right to defend 'freedom of expression'.

Secretary for the National Federation of Atheist, Humanist and Secular Student Societies, Michael Paynter, said: 'Robbie stepped aside because he signed up as president to organise events and run a student society.

'He did not appreciate the stress he would be under when dealing with a controversy like this, so he wanted to make way for someone else.'

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association's protest against the photo has been backed by UCL's Union.
A UCL Union statement said: 'The atheist society has agreed they will take more consideration when drawing up publicity for future events.

'The society was asked to remove the image because UCLU aims to foster good relations between different groups of students and create a safe environment where all students can benefit from societies regardless of their religious or other beliefs.'

The image that started the controversy was taken from an online twice-weekly satirical comic strip, called Jesus and Mo, and has been running since 2005.

The Association aims to continue its protest until the image is taken down - claiming it is offensive and has wider implications.

The association's national spokesperson, Adam Walker, said the two student groups had worked well together in the past and said the offence was unnecessary.

He said: 'The principle is more important than who is being attacked - this time it is Muslims and Christians but in the future it could be atheists themselves.'

"This time it is Muslims and Christians but in the future it could be atheists themselves." Wow. This guy apparently thinks that atheists will be just as upset over a cartoon as Muslims are. (Read more.)

How about it, atheists? Are you quaking in your boots at the thought of the tables turning, when someone might ***GASP*** draw a cartoon making fun of your beliefs? Here's one:

Let's see if I get any death threats.

Yesterday Uncyclopedia, a parody site of Wikipedia, joined into the protest of SOPA and went black for 24 hours.
But its reasons were vastly different...it was protesting Wikipedia's protest.

So, I'e been thinking, we need to dress up like muslims and protest the protesters.
That's right: fake beards for the ladies, burkas for the men and we need to hold up signs against the protesters and chant in passionate cadence 'It's a JOKE! Lighten up! Get the stick out of your butt!!"

Yes, I have this much time on my hands but like Uncyclopedia, I think the point can be made and with levity.
And if muslims really want to show tolerance...nows the chance.

You got it right on when you said Muslims have far more reverence for Mo than Allah and its precisely 20 percent Allah and 80 Mo.

Just listen to any 20 min sermon from Muslim he spend five minutes on Allah and ten on Sala hu walleyhi wassalam and 5 mins on how horrible Jews, Christian or non Muslims are depending where you live.
In Indonesia Christians top Jews second and Bud hits 3rd

In Pakistan Hindus top Christians 2nd Jews 3rd. They have invented a new Arabic word for Hindus. When they give refrence to " Yahood and Nisara they also insert " Yahood Hanood (Hindu) and Nisara. I hope it works its way to Koran.

Middle East Jews top Christians 2nd others third

How irreverent of those Atheists. Almost, but not quite, as irreverent as the U.S. Military's burning Bibles at Bagram Air Force Base.

Could General David Petraeus be a closet Atheist? He certainly has the requisite irreverence for it.

THESE PEOPLE ARE ABSURD, GIVING INTO THESE IDIOTIC CHILDISH DEMANDS:

"The president of the Atheist, Secularist and Humanist society at the prestigious University College London (UCL), Robbie Yellon, has stepped down over the controversy."

"A UCL Union statement said: 'The atheist society HAS AGREED they will take more consideration when drawing up publicity for future events."

I literally felt sick reading that. A trademark, signature of grumpy, goofy, angry Atheists is the satire and mockery they have in harmless verbal or artistic depictions of religious myth. It's almost a sub-cultural atheistic phenomenon. To take an innocent concept like that, and transform it into an idiotic Islamic guilt trip and use for political gain? HOW ******* STUPID, and the U.N. is going to support stupid groups like this with new legislation forbidding offense and criticism of religion.

HOW UTTERLY ABSURD.

Shame on these Atheists for caving in. I feel more pissed off with the Atheists for caving in on both accounts already, and no doubt they will take the picture down since these bullies won't stop.

BTW did these Ahmadiyas get permission and fawtah from the unformal Sharia Courts illegally granting Muslim verdicts?

Not only shouldn't you draw Mohammed, but Hey don't call Mohammed a womanizer either or you'll literally pay money:

Draw a picture of three plain and identical smiley faces. Label one of them Frank, another Sue and the last Muhammad.

Uproar!

And this is sane?

This comment says it all.

I think all atheist organisations should be banned and their leaders put in prison for treason. The Koran is Allahs (Gods) final word. Us muslims will be respected wether you like it not. We are the religion of the future as we gain more converts than anyone else and we have proper size families. The christians will thank us one day for protecting them against the dangerous ideas of the atheists.

Kathleen Madigan called the folks dressed up in burkas -- beekeeper outfits! Ouch!

M.C.: I think that dubbing them "ghosts" or "ninjas" would be more appropriate. Everytime I go by a "woman" in a burka (it could be Seth Rogen in a tutu underneath and I'd be none the wiser!) I can't help but humm the theme from "Ghostbusters".

@MC-so long as there are no bees it should be okay....
Or so long as we have epi-pens. Yeah, i think it will be cool.

But most importantly....what do you think about the mantra...it's catchy, no???

The saddest part is that it is an Ahmadeyya group which has caused this furore. A sect considered by many Muslims as heretical and persecuted and marginalised throughout much of the Muslim world, sees fit to throw its weight about in the UK. A country in which they enjoy the protection of the state to freely express their own beliefs as they see fit.

The irony makes my teeth ache.

I'm offended bythis cartoon, offended that its drawn so bad
And that somebody sat Jesus who was regardless of beliief in his diety a moral holy man next to mo, an arguably evil man who relished commiting murder, committed mass murder and institutionalized theft as a right for mulims against the other.

It sets up moral relativism sitting them together.

You're almost certainly a deluded Paki who believes in the
imaginary sky daddy Allah .
Belief in fairies is for children not for adults.
Sadly our politically correct administrators haven't the intelligence to subject Mohammedanism to the derision it so richly deserves.

Freedom of speech and expression doesn't work in dissing other religions prophets or God. It is your or other christians problem if you dont feel anything about ur relegion or God being made fun of. But we muslims cant accept that. I dont think there should be any tolerance in this. We dont disrespect ur relegion neither should anyone do ours.
And about Prophet Mohammed(SAW), Allah(SW) has said in the quran <>.
And another place Allah(SW) has said <> So we do follow the prophet(SAW) as we are commanded by Allah(SW). And he is an example of everything in our lives. So dont be surprised if we mention the name of Mohammed(SAW) always. And we also love him more than u can imagine. We are ready to give our lives for the cause and love of Allah(SW) and the propet(SAW). Our ultimate destiny is for the life after death and to stand in front of Allah(SW) on the judgement day. And on that day how we can tell Allah(SW) that we loved him and we obeyed him is by telling how we obeyed his command by loving and following him(Allah(SW)) and following and loving the prophet(SAW). And more over if you want to know the relegion of islam just read the quran and the authentic hadith. And if you really want to know who Mohammed(SAW) was read his biography with unbiased heart. And you will understand what kind of man he was and why all muslims love him so much. May Allah(SW) guide you to the right path.

Ishaaq,

The Qur'an calls me the "worst of creatures" because of my beliefs (98:6). The Qur'an commands you to fight me because of my beliefs (9:29). The Qur'an calls for Allah to destroy me because of my beliefs (9:30). The Qur'an repeatedly says that my beliefs are false.

Hence, if it's wrong to criticize someone else's beliefs, then the Qur'an is a wicked, evil book (following your claims). So do you condemn the Qur'an? Or is it okay for Muslims to condemn others, while non-Muslims have to keep our mouths shut?

rui said...

Ah, yes, Ishaaq.
The problem for you is that your prophet was unable to give his followers a reason to live, but he sure gave them more reasons to die than you can shake a stick at.

That's why islam has not prepared his followers to succeed in life. That's why you people long for death: your failed culture can never compete in the modern world. That's why your infantile concept of afterlife is the underachievers wet dream of all the loot, sex and largesse you could never acquire through honest means in this life.

But don't take my word for it. Take a look at the bottom of the barrel in prosperity, scientific advancement and general well being of Humans that runs through the muslim world today. Because you cannot compete - as a tribal culture fosters corruption, discourages innovation, wastes human potential, discredits social and economic institutions and the like - you turn to the only thing that can assure your dominance: numbers and a death wish. You belong to a non-civilization. All you can do is dump your garbage on our streets and then run away to avoid the consequences. Pathetic.

You cannot make any progress because you blame others for your failure. Whatever happens in your countries, it's always the fault of the little satan and/or the big satan.

The best you can do is exploiting your minorities (if you can find them and if they haven't yet been exterminated), building atop the ruins of other culture's holy places, loot and claim for yourselves the products of others.

You can only borrow tools, but not build them. Unlike you, true civilizations build tools.

Mr self styled slave of allah: don't purport to teach us about freedom of speech. You look foolish. Freedom of speech is PRECISELY to protect insulting speech, because polite speech doesn't need to be protected.

As an atheist, I do feel queasy when someone insults Christianity. I do recognise the value of Judeo-Christian mores in the make up of my culture. When someone attacks it, I do feel insulted. But, what the heck, why not let them speak, make fools of themselves and perhaps even agreeing to discuss their attacks on its merits (if they have any)?

So insult away, if that's the best and only thing you can do. I'll keep on addressing the point that your prophet was a murderer, rapist, looter, pirate, compulsive liar and child molester. But I know, these are all virtues for you, as long as they are practiced by muslims and not everybody else.
