Ramadan's grandfather was one of the founders of the Muslim Brotherhood. While I don't support holding people accountable for the actions of elder family members...let's just say it's no shock that Ramadan engages in Taqiya. There's video of him on youtube praying that Allah will destroy the "enemies of Islam".
Nicky, Murray says he was a dedicated Christian for many years but became an atheist. He said that he became an atheist because he started looking into Islam and found it appalling, and that led him to study his own faith further and he abandoned that, too. I suspect that his homosexuality quite possibly had something to do with it, too, since obviously it put him at odds with generally accepted beliefs about homosexuality among Christians.
I think he's great - I don't agree with everything he says but I do think he is intellectually and morally head and shoulders above a lot of political commentators, as illustrated by this clip, in which Murray debates one of our (inexplicably) foremost left-wing commentators, Yasmin Alibhai-Brown:
