For instance, some Muslims have distorted the following passage (which obviously calls for peace, tolerance, and universal love), and they claim that it calls for fighting unbelievers.
Qur’an 9:29—Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the Religion of Truth, from among the People of the Book, until they pay the Jizyah with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued.
How radical Muslims could ever misinterpret such a clear call for a unity of all faiths is beyond me.

Our President's cluelessness about Islam is going to be the death of us all. It's also going to help Sharia law enter into the United States as well.
It sure sounds like Obama is trying REALLY hard to sound politically correct.
It's significant that he has to try hard.
Political correctness is in its twilight. Multiculturalism is truly dead as an ideology or cultural perspective.
There is too much going on in the world right now that refutes both.
The world has turned.
Mr. Obama is anchored in the mud of the past, on the ash-heap of history. And he doesn't even know it.
speaking of how clueless he his. does anyone remember when he was campaigning and he told us that his name, barak, meant blessing in arabic?
well actually, baraka, with an "a" at the end means blessings. barak was the majestic horse with wings that mohammed flew on....i wonder if he knows that and if so, why he told us otherwise...is there any arabic speakers who can prove me right or wrong?

I believe you are referring to the winged beast 'Al-Burak' as described in the night journey of The Prophet Muhammad (Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him) from Bait-ul-Haraam in Makkah to Bait-ul-Maqdis in Jerusalem. 'Barak' (or 'Baraak' as it is sometimes spelled) does mean 'Blessing'.

yusuf,
thank you for being kind in your response. my arab friend who teaches the army arabic and lived most his life in the middle east also agreed with me, however.
baraka is a blessing.barakat is more than one blessing.
i guess barak could come from the root word of baraka or barakat and i see how someone could mistake them for the same thing but i doubt it. I think they just tried to make it into a name or got it from mohammeds "winged beast," burak.
burak, barak...they are the same. lets agree to disagree.
god bless

With respect, I wouldn't assume a guy was a expert on the hebrew Tanakh simply because he spoke and taught yiddish or hebrew. I think I would first probably wonder if the guy had attended and/or completed Yeshiva.
I absolutely respect those who an teach and speak any language, even arabic.
Just out of curiousity, did you ask him even what 'Al-Burak' is or what this is in reference to? Have you ever read any of the major Biographries of The Prophet (Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him)? If you have, what does it call the beast he (Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him) rode upon during the night journey from Bait-ul-Haraam to Bait-ul-Maqdis?

@Helen:
It is also spelled in the english language, 'Al-Buraq'. However all of this is moot since (realistically) it is an arabic word and not an english word.
Peace
im going to be completely honest. maybe your right, i don't think so but im not 100% sure anyways.
however, no matter what you say it is very hard for me to understand or even listen to your points because yes i have read about mohammeds life and it was a horrible legacy to leave behind since it was full of killing and sex with numerous people and a child so in my mind i just automatically think everything else you follow or think is flawed.and i unfortunately judge your morality which gets in the way of my reasoning.
i realize thats a very bad habit and i should be more open minded and grow but its okay because i have debaters like david and others to represent what i think until i do and maybe someone will do a talk or presentation about this one day. so just don't waste your time for now my friend because i just cant listen to someone who thinks killing and sex in heaven is great yet. i thought i was but unfortunately i just wasted your time! sorry :(

I understand what you're saying. I never intended on upsetting you.
I only intended on answering the question you put out to me.
I earnestly mean no disrespect towards you.
I pray (Insha'Allaah) that one day you will judge me, and those like me, by the content of our character and not by the actions of criminals.
May Allaah guide us all. Ameen.

oh im not upset with you im upset with myself for not being able to get your comments go through my head until ive read them like three times just because you think greatly of islam. im sorry.
i don't understand your criminals statement but anyways i dont want to drag this out. im only going to add one more thing.
you cant change my mind because i just know it needs to have the a sound at the end. and it doesnt matter how its spelled in english. if its spelled barak or burak, i think it the name of mohammeds winged beast.
theres a famous muslim turkish actor, whose very handsome by the way, and his name is spelled burak ozcivit. are you going to tell me his name means blessing too? i don't think were going to change our minds so maybe we should just drop it.

In your last post you stated:
"oh im not upset with you im upset with myself for not being able to get your comments go through my head until ive read them like three times just because you think greatly of islam. im sorry."
No Problem. Allaah willing, I can respect your difference of opinion. Praise be to Allaah, my beliefs don't require for you to agree with me.
"i don't understand your criminals statement but anyways i dont want to drag this out. im only going to add one more thing."
No problem.
"you cant change my mind because i just know it needs to have the a sound at the end."
No problem here. Allaah willing, you have the right to choose what you want to believe and I can respect that.
"and it doesnt matter how its spelled in english. if its spelled barak or burak, i think it the name of mohammeds winged beast."
Praise be to Allaah, I suppose it does matter more how both words are spelled (and sound)in the arabic language.
For instance, both words begin with the letter BAA from the arabic alphabet.
However, if written in arabic, 'Barak' would have a diacritical mark known as a Fat'ha over the letter BAA.
Whereas 'Burak' would have a diacritical mark known as a Dam'ma over the letter BAA. The Fat'ha provides the 'AA' sound while the Dam'ma provides the 'OO' sound.
To anyone (even a person who can't read arabic), both diacritical marks look completely different.
Again, no problem here. Allaah willing, you have the right to choose what you want to believe and I can respect that.
Also, you stated in your last post:
"theres a famous muslim turkish actor, whose very handsome by the way, and his name is spelled burak ozcivit. are you going to tell me his name means blessing too?"
No, not at all. In this person's particular case I personally agree that he (the actor, Burak) is probably (Allaah knows best) named after the blessed beast that The Prophet Muhammad (Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him) rode during his night journey from Bait-ul-Haram in Makkah to Bait-ul-Maqdis in Jerusalem.
You closed your post out by stating:
"i don't think were going to change our minds so maybe we should just drop it."
No problem. Peace.
