London Debate Series: Help Needed!

Friends (i.e. Freeloaders!),

We don't ask for much, and we sure don't get much. But this time we need help. Nabeel and I spent this past weekend at ISNA (the Islamic Society of North America's National Convention), and our funds are all gone. I'm not teaching over the summer because I have too many debates and speaking engagements. Nabeel just finished med school and doesn't start working until the end of this month (and he's decided to go into ministry). We had trouble finding locations for several of our debates in London, so we agreed with our Muslim friends to split the cost of renting venues. Apart from that, a trip to London for twelve days of formal and street debating turns out to be quite expensive. I'm asking everyone who has a steady job and isn't poor to consider contributing to this trip. You can contribute via PayPal here:

(NOTE: If any of our Muslim readers would like to help with their fellow Muslims' expenses, you can contact them here.)

Here's the series so far (not counting Speaker's Corner or radio debates):

Sunday 12th July 2009

6:30pm-9:30pm
"Trading Faiths: Islam and Christianity: Why We Chose to Leave and Believe"

Conway Hall, 25 Red Lion Square, London WC1R 4RL (nearest [tube] station: Holborn)

Tuesday 14th July 2009

6:30pm-9:30pm
"Is Islam a Religion of Peace?"
Abdullah al-Andalusi & Yahya Hyder Seymour vs. David Wood & Nabeel Qureshi
Abrar House, 45 Crawford Place, London, (nearest [tube] station: Edgware Road)

Thursday 16th July 2009

6:30pm-9:00pm
"Is Christianity a Religion of Peace?”
David Wood vs. Abdullah al-Andalusi

Buses from Morden Underground 80, or 93, ask for the George bus stop. Parking available at Merton College, next to the church on London Road.

Friday 17th July 2009

Wait a second-- doesn't pastor George pay for everything? Why not just ask him?

David Wood said...

George pays for whatever he can, and he often pays for my plane tickets and finds me places to stay here in the U.S. But I know he's way behind on ministry finances. He just now got the money to pay the videographers for debates we did last year. I paid my own way to London last time. I slept on a mattress on the floor of a church. I have no problem sleeping on a floor, but there's no way around certain expenses (e.g. plane tickets, meals, etc.). I'm trying to keep the burden off George as much as possible.

Michelle Qureshi said...

The only time I've ever received any money from George was when he flew me to Michigan.

You think we get paid for this stuff? We pay for it all out of pocket.

Ehteshaam Gulam said...

oh man. In that case, since we are friends I will help you guys out. Since I have spare money, I will try to give 100 dollars. However for some reason I can't do it through paypal.

But if money is becoming an issue, will you guys still debate?

Nabeel, I will call you. When do you need it? Do you guys want a check?

Thanks,
Ehteshaam Gulam.

Michelle Qureshi said...

And we don't ask him because he doesn't have much money, either. Just because he's willing to fly Muslim debaters, doesn't mean he's rolling in the dough. It seems to me that he's more generous in helping them out than us. I know for a fact that he's spent more money on flying Farhan around than he has on me.

God bless generous men like George - we need more men like him.

Ehteshaam Gulam said...

Yeah, for some reason I can't do it through paypal. David and Nabeel, let me know as soon as possible.

Thanks,
Ehteshaam Gulam

What, David, were you sleeping on a madras in a church? If I lived in London you guys would be staying with me.

How about this time have you guys found a place to stay in London? I am sure that can be arranged.

Michelle Qureshi said...

Ehteshaam - that's a very generous offer. I'm heading to London as we speak, so give david an email or a call, and I'm sure he'll let you know what to do.

God bless you, friend. Sincerely,
-Nabeel

Peace to all in the name of Lord Jesus Christ.

Krishna Raj seem to be a South Indian (I am from India) or Muslim in disguise with a Hindu name.

The Greatness Of Zakir Naik
There is nothing great about Dr. Zakir Naik MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery, or in Latin Medicinae Baccalaureus, Baccalaureus Chirurgiae)
Every medical or Software professional have great memory.
eg: a medical doctor will know to diagnose a patient as well as prescribe a medicine to him so Dr. Zakir Naik MBBs applies what he learnt from his master late Deedat.
Ask him some thing out of the box he will go off track and distract the sensible audience with the support and applause by his worshippers the poorly educated Indian, Bangladeshi and Pakistani Wahabbi Mohamadians.

Approaching Dr. Zakir Naik is not easy
Dr. Zakir Naik is a powerful Indian . 2009 of the Indian Express list of the 100 Most Powerful Indians in 2009 amongst the billion plus population of India, Dr. Zakir Naik was ranked No. 82. He is well connected with mohamadians politicians and political parities. The so called secular political parties depend on muslim votes.
He is in good terms with Wealthy and powerful mohamadians of Indian and Pakistani origin in North America, Europe, South east Asia.
Dr. Zakir Naik Office is Located in Dongri Bombay. This Place in south Bmbay is also the heart land of Bombay’s underworld Mafia. Dongri is also Home Of 1993 accused under world gangster Dawood Ibrahim and his associates. Just as Zakir is rated 82 powerful man Dawood was No. 4 on the Forbes' World's Top 10 most dreaded criminals list of 2008

Zakir The Religious Business Tycoon
As IRF is considered as a trust no Government taxes or any restriction. So un accountable money flows . Zakir IRF is in partnership with Harmony Media makes huge profits.
Dr. Zakir Naik MBBS and Partners (prominent speaker on Peace TV) have made a good fortune out of Daawa Business and also influenced many Landias and Con man in India and Pakistan. Eg Br. Imran of IREF (Islamic Research and Education Foundation) Based in Hyderabad India.
There is a scam run in India to save money from income taxes. Donate or park 10 million Rupees in the charitable fund. Later withdraw 8 million. 2 million is the parking charge. We call this as Convert black money to white.

Zakir Naik Popular in Media.
The Indian media were true and Honest and were exposing Zakir and IRF but when IRF started pumping money in print advertisment for his peace tv conference. Suddently they started covering his event rather exposing it.

Brother David reading your comments and watching the videos. I feel Christian are truly a minority in the West and elsewhere.

History is the witness. The crusades were lost not because the mohammadians were powerful. BUT because there were many traitors, cowards and greedy Christians. Such Christians still exit in our world. For little money and business they will ignore the plight of fellow Christian fighting for his faith.

Shame on Christian Electronic Media.
Shame on the Million Dollar Churches of America.
Shame On Christian Unity

Hey David and Nabeel..

I am praying for you guys. I'm so impressed by your work. But one thing that makes me feel down is that I am not able to support you people financially.

I am a Student who may be able to get a Teaching assistantship for the fall semester...and if I do....I will make sure I will support you people at least with some of what I get.

As of now....well I am living on my parents money...and every step I take now is a leap of faith ...believing God will take care of my needs too. I am an International Student from India...and always quite not sure if I will be able to pay my next semester fee....But God has never let me down all through the way. Surely he will take care of your need.

But my prayers are with you all...

And hopefully in some months I will be able to support you people.

David Wood said...

Minoria, if your email address starts with "robert," then yes, we received our first donation for the trip.

Alex, thank you for your good intentions and for praying for us, but if you're a student, you'll probably need every dime you have. (Let us know when you graduate and get a sweet job, though!)

Alex Albert said...

I did read Krishnaraj's posts.....I do agree with him that Zakir Naik has been diverting a lot of people.

It really would be great if you could debate him and am sure you can easily shatter him down. But Indians are so passionate about their religion and can easily get aggressive......and so you should watch out.....

I heard also that he has not accepted the challenge...but I personally feel that if the Debates are made more public....he way have to come off his hideout.

I am an Indian....and I have a lot of Christians and people of other faiths too who can possibly help publicizing this Challenge in India.....

If you can give some suggestions as to how it could be publicized...we can possible give it a try. We will be happy to contribute the little we can.

Bro Fernando, I have been reading your comments and I really like the way to refute.

Just again to remind The Indian media was Honest and were exposing Zakir's gang but when IRF started advertising in print media for peace tv conference. Later the PRESS started covering his event rather exposing it.

The Peace TV Islamic Peace Conference began on 14th November to 23rd November 2008 in Mumbai. Just days before the Satanic 26/11/08 Mumbai Terror Attack.

Hi Alex.
I am also from Bombay India. Just to remind you I am not KrishnaRaj. Krishna Raj seem to be a Muslim in disguise with a Hindu name. you can read his comment on other post.
Dude only muslim can get the RAT Dr. Zakir Naik MBBS for a public debate.

Zakir Naik is the islamic hero so we should tell muslims to get Their Hero Zakir out for debate.

And I bet muslim are insecure about their Islam, they will never challenge Zakir to debate Christian Apologist Bro Sam Shamoun and others.

Great David, glad you got it.I'm surprised to know there are quite a number of Christians from India who read the blog. They must be proud of Dinesh D'Souza. He's from India also, arrived at the US at the age of 17.

He wrote "What's so Great about Christianity."Terrific book. You can see his debates with atheists on youtube.

Only thing I reproach him is he doesn't realize the Sharia threat. In that he opposes the views of Robert Spencer. In that he resembles Karen Armstrong. In fact Robert Spencer has offered to debate her on Islam, and she hasn't responded.

If she is so sure of her position on Islam, why not bring out her evidence in a debate?

Guys,go to youtube and write"Robert Spencer, the myth of Islamic tolerance".You'll get his exposition on it in 5 parts. You'll see he's a calm scholarly man.He doesn't make wild-eyed accusations.

Krishnaraj said...

Rather than debating on who I am, you should rather try finding an oppurtunity to debate zakir naik.

David Wood said...

Krishnaraj,

Christian debaters have been trying to get Zakir Naik to debate for years. He simply won't do it. So it makes no sense to tell us to debate Dr. Naik, when he refuses to debate. Instead, you should try encouraging Dr. Naik to do something he has never done: face an experienced Christian debater!

Go ahead and contact him. Tell him that David Wood, Nabeel Qureshi, James White, and Sam Shamoun are waiting patiently.

Jeffrey Pacheco said...

I learn a lot from your ministry David and Nabeel. So, it's time for me to give something back.
I'll give $100 to the ministry.

Haecceitas said...

I'm sorry that I'm not able to help you financially, since my own finances are pretty tight.

In addition to your debates, do you plan to go to the Speaker's Corner and film some informal dialogues with Muslims there? I don't even mean the semi-formal debates like done by Jay Smith etc, just ordinary discussions. That might produce some interesting footage, plus the format would be closer to the settings in which typical Muslim-Christian dialogues take place in everyday life, so in that sense, it might be more educational from a practical point of view.

Dear minoria,

Good that you are noticing Indian Christians on this Blog.

To be honest on this blog I don’t come as Indian or Pakistani, Catholic, Orthodox, Protestants or Believer. On this Blog I come as a Humble Student for Christian Apologetic to Islam.

I really dont Know about Dinesh D'Souza. But He seem to be from my community in term of regional, Ethnic, Language and religious background (India is not just a country but also a Sub Continent)

You should be happy that Ravi Zacharias’ is also Indian.

I wish I could do more to thank you, but hopefully what I send can provide a meal or some cab-fair. I have notified all my YouTube contacts about your request, and I hope that can do more than I am able on my own.

Hello Adam:

Thanks for the comment. But really Dinesh D'Souza is the most famous Indian in the US,along with Freida Pinto, the one of Slumdog Millionaire.I think she's also Christian. Her family name is undeniably Portuguese-Spanish.It comes from the verb "pintar=to paint."On top of that she has a Western first name.

It turns out,it seems, that Neda Soltan, the Iranian girl who has become a symbol for the Iranian resistance, was a Christian. That's what appeared in jihadwatch.org.We only have 1 photo of her,the one where she has no hijab.

It seems the photo was modified. In the original she's wearing a cross, which was blotted out in the beginning.By who?Maybe by the Iranian opposition, maybe by the Western media.Officially there are only 220,000 Christians in Iran, out of 70 million. But there are about 1 million secret Christians,or even 4 million.

I know Ravi Zacharias.I especially liked his book where there was an imaginary conversation between Buddha and Jesus. There Buddha said the only thing we know for sure is that nothing is permanent. So Jesus said that since nothing is permanent then by logic the conclusion that nothing is permanent is also not permanent. The Buddha replied he would have to think about that.

Good work guys, I just came home from the first debate in London. Nabeel did a really good job, but Paul (the Muslims speaker) was going all around the place, since he was preoccupation with liberal New Testament scholarship.

Hey guys,

greetings from the holy land. I was wondering how the trip in London is going. Wish I couldbe of any assistance to you guys. My heart is with you and I will be praying for you. I see the first debate has already taken place. I'm sure that went well. My hope is that Muslims and Christians come to the debates not to hear bashing from either side, but to hear the arguments and weigh them with an unbiased view. May they be lead to the truth.

Thank you guys for your works.

If its too late, the next time I see both of you I'll give you the money.
