Five Muslims Arrested in Denmark for Terror Plot

Muhammad said that he would fight people until they become Muslims:

Sahih Muslim 33—It has been narrated on the authority of Abdullah b. Umar that the Messenger of Allah said: I have been commanded to fight against people till they testify that there is no god but Allah, that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah, and they establish prayer, and pay Zakat and if they do it, their blood and property are guaranteed protection on my behalf except when justified by law, and their affairs rest with Allah.

Since Muhammad is Islam's highest moral example, it should come as no surprise that his followers do the same.

COPENHAGEN, Denmark -- Five men planning to shoot as many people as possible in a building housing the newsroom of a paper that published cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad were arrested Wednesday in an operation that halted an imminent attack, intelligence officials said.

Denmark's intelligence service said it arrested four men in two raids in suburbs of the capital, Copenhagen, and seized an automatic weapon, a silencer and ammunition. Swedish police said they arrested a 37-year-old Swedish citizen of Tunisian origin living in Stockholm.

"An imminent terror attack has been foiled," said Jakob Scharf, head of the Danish Security and Intelligence Service, or PET. He described some the suspects as "militant Islamists with relations to international terror networks" and said that more arrests were possible.

PET said it seized a 44-year-old Tunisian, a 29-year-old Lebanese-born man and a 30-year-old who were living in Sweden and had entered Denmark late Tuesday or early Wednesday. The fourth person detained was a 26-year-old Iraqi asylum-seeker living in Copenhagen.

The Danish intelligence service said the group had been planning to enter the building where the Jyllands-Posten daily has its Copenhagen newsdesk and had wanted "to kill as many of the people present as possible." The four men face preliminary charges of attempting to carry out an act of terrorism. They will face a custody hearing Thursday. (Read more.)

Gary Bauer--If Christians Were Treated Like Muslims

Human Events--Few Americans would deny that Judeo-Christian beliefs and values informed the Founding of this country and that they continue to shape much of American life today. Nor would many of us deny that Americans who embrace Islamic values are a distinct minority here.

I raise these two facts because of an emerging reality: that, in a variety of contexts, American Muslims are treated better than American Christians. That might seem like a bizarre assertion, so think about it in another way: What if the Christians were treated like Muslims in America, and Muslims like Christians?

If Muslims were treated like Christians in America, Muslims would have to tolerate the defamation of their holiest images in our national museums, acts which would be called "artwork" -- and, if particularly provocative, even given taxpayer-funded grants from the National Endowment for the Arts. They would also have to accept Korans being burned and thrown into toilets, which instead of inciting worldwide outrage and retribution would provoke a collective shrug of the shoulders.

If Muslims were treated like Christians, Muslims would be mocked by late night TV talk show hosts and lampooned in crude cartoon parodies. If Christians were treated like Muslims, conspicuous Christianity would be celebrated by our elites as a sign of our diversity and open-mindedness, not disparaged as an embarrassment, a nuisance and a breach of the law.

If Christianity were treated like Islam, our students would be taught a white-washed version of Christian history, with the troubling bits miscast or omitted from textbooks and lesson plans.

If Christianity were treated like Islam, if an evangelical Christian committed an evil act in the name of his faith, he would be portrayed in the media as a deviation from, not a personification of, the Gospel message. Meanwhile, our political and media elites would hasten to assure the public that evangelical Christianity is a religion of peace and that the vast majority of evangelical Christians do not support terrorism.

If Christianity were treated like Islam in America, our president, a professed Christian, would proudly attend Christian-themed dinners and events while skipping Ramadan dinners, not vice versa. And Muslim politicians would go out of their way to assure people that their faith would not affect their policy-making.

If Christianity were treated like Islam, Christmas and Easter would be publicly celebrated for what they are — the signature events of Christianity, marking the birth and the death and Resurrection of Christ — not stripped of all their theological meaning and transformed into secular holidays devoted to crass consumerism.

If Christians were treated like Muslims, NASA would be tasked with reaching out to Christians and recognizing their faith's profound achievements and contributions to science, math and engineering, instead of being told to make Muslims feel good about their rather meager scientific accomplishments.

If Christians were treated like Muslims, the Catholic Church's stances on sex, contraception and human life would be revered as welcome departures from our over-sexed, self-obsessed culture, not condemned as a cause of disease and death in the less-developed world. And if Muslims were treated like Christians, the application of Sharia law around the world would be met not with stony silence but with the outrage it deserves.

If Christians were treated like Muslims in America, amusement parks would celebrate "Christian Family Day," (Six Flags recently celebrated "Muslim Family Day"), and Christians would be asked to embrace, not set aside, their religious convictions at the door when they entered the public square. Meanwhile, Muslim imams, not Christian pastors, would fear hate crimes lawsuits for preaching orthodox views of sexuality and sin.

The notion that American Muslims face discrimination, even to the point of violence, is often posited by America's elites. But that idea evaporates under scrutiny. Remarkably few hate crimes are reported against Muslims (fewer than one-eighth those against Jews). What's more, Muslim immigration to America has risen sharply since September 11, 2001, and Muslims thrive, economically and educationally, once they arrive.

In fact, it is Christians, not Muslims, who increasingly encounter cultural elites who are hostile to their beliefs and values.

Sadly, Christians will never be treated like Muslims by America's elites. Why? Because Christianity can be attacked without fear of retribution. The Christian response to insult and attack -- "to turn the other cheek" -- contradicts the knee-jerk call to violence of many Islamists.

It's also because left-wing elites and radical Islamists are united in the common cause of upending the Judeo-Christian culture and roots of American society.

I’m not in favor of burning the Koran, and I don’t think insulting or defaming symbols of any religion constitutes art. At a time of the year when intolerance for public displays of Christianity is most acute, it is my Christmas wish that Muslims and Christians would be treated equally.

Acts 17 Apologetics in Dearborn, Michigan

Several people have contacted us asking for summaries of the events in Dearborn. Since we didn't have a post with a complete summary, I thought it would be good to put one together.

I attended the 2008 Dearborn Arab Festival, along with many other Christians. I stood on the public sidewalk and offered passersby Christian DVDs and copies of the Gospel of John. Some Muslims asked us about our beliefs, and we got into some good conversations. As far as I know, no one's Constitutional rights were violated, and I saw nothing that I would complain about.

Prior to the 2009 Arab Festival, we were informed of a rule change. We would no longer be allowed to freely distribute tracts, DVDs, Bibles, etc., at the festival. Anyone who wanted to share materials (even if it was on a public sidewalk) would have to rent a booth. Since we didn't want to pay a fee in order to exercise our Constitutional rights, we had little interest in traveling all the way to Michigan to attend the Arab Festival. However, Nabeel and I went to Michigan anyway to take part in a series of moderated Christian-Muslim debates. Since we were there, we decided to visit the festival. On the first day of the festival, we got into a discussion with some Muslims at a booth. We mostly listened to their claims and accepted the materials they were distributing (which included both pro-Islam and anti-Christian pamphlets and CDs).

Later that day, we began hearing horror stories of Christians whose rights had been violated. The Muslim security guards (one of whom had "Hezbollah" tattooed down his arm) were using the no-distribution rule to harass and persecute certain Christians. Instead of merely stopping these Christians from distributing items, security guards were entrapping Christians who weren't distributing anything but were only attempting to evangelize. Again and again, a plain-clothes security guard would walk up to a Christian and say, "Hey, I see you've got a pocket Bible. Can I see it? I want to look something up." Then, as soon as the Christian attempted to hand the Bible over, security would take a picture and escort the Christian to police for violating festival rules. Thus, Muslim security guards were getting Christians into trouble for breaking the rules, even when Christians weren't breaking the rules. The goal was to keep certain Christian evangelists from witnessing to Muslims. (Note: This even happened to me at the festival. I had a pamphlet in my pocket, and a plain-clothes security guard asked me for it. Since I had already heard about this security guard using the same tactic to get Christians in trouble, I didn't fall for it. When I refused, I was told that I had better not talk to anyone about Christianity. These were the sorts of things leading up to our encounter with security.)

After finishing our debates on Sunday, we returned for the final day of the festival. We were disturbed when we again noticed an inconsistency. Christians were being targeted and harassed for evangelizing, yet Muslims were free to distribute t-shirts with a boy peeing on an Israeli flag.

Shortly after we recorded the "Hate Messages" clip, Nabeel tried to ask a question at a booth that invited us to ask questions. The Muslims gave us permission to record the conversation (a fact which has been almost completely ignored by our critics). Ironically, Nabeel was asking a question about Surah 9:29 of the Qur'an, which calls for the subjugation of non-Muslims. Muslim security guards gave us their answer, by conspiring against us and physically assaulting us. Notice that they also assaulted Mary Jo Sharp, who was simply holding a camera.

Following our treatment at the Arab Festival, Josh McDowell posted a video that was obviously meant as a response to our "Sharia in the U.S." video. Josh praised Mayor John O'Reilly, Police Chief Haddad, the Police Department, and the Arab Chamber of Commerce.

Of course, not everyone at the festival had the same experience. A comment on Josh's video shows that other Christians were harassed and persecuted:

So why did Josh have such a wonderful time, while we were being slapped around by security and other Christians were being harassed? It's quite simple actually. When you go to the Dearborn Arab Festival, certain groups are going to make sure you understand that they are in charge. The Chamber of Commerce, or security, or the police will let you know that you have to follow their rules, even if their rules violate the Constitution. If you accept their conditions, you'll be fine at the festival. If you object, you're in trouble. At the 2009 Arab Festival, for instance, Josh was told that he was not free to proselytize. Here's a comment on Josh's YouTube page showing that he accepted this rule:

The Constitution and repeated court rulings, of course, guarantee his right to proselytize, so there was no legal justification for demanding that Josh distribute explicitly Christian materials ("More Than a Carpenter") outside of the festival. But the price of peace at the festival is submission. I should note here that I have no objections if a ministry decides to submit to unconstitutional rules at the festival. Indeed, for short-term ministry purposes, this is probably the best bet. But someone needs to stand up for our Constitutional rights. Many people died to ensure our right to preach freely. Shouldn't we object when someone tries to take it away?

(I should also note that I do have objections to the phrase "Sharia Love." Indeed, I can't figure out what Josh could possibly mean by this phrase. Does it mean that he loves Sharia? Does it mean that Sharia promotes love? For anyone who knows what Sharia entails, the phrase makes no sense at all. James White comments on the phrase here.)

After the 2009 Arab Festival, Mary Jo Sharp and I discussed the incident with a detective at the Dearborn Police Department. The detective watched the video footage with us and concluded that charges could be made against three of the Muslims who attacked us. He gave us three options: (1) We could press charges against the three Muslims; (2) He could arrange a meeting with the three Muslims, so that we could all discuss what happened; (3) He could make sure that the three Muslims did not return to future Arab festivals. We ultimately decided to go with option (3). We thought that we were being generous by not pressing charges, and we foolishly believed that this might serve as an olive branch towards those who had assaulted us.

We returned to the Arab Festival in 2010. Since (a) security had attacked us the previous year, (b) security had tried to set us up the previous year, and (c) Muslims had threatened to harm/kill us if we returned, we knew that we had better keep cameras rolling the entire time. Our group was to consist of Nabeel, Paul, a friend named Josh, and me. Nabeel and I would do the talking, with Josh filming a few feet away. Paul would be filming from a distance, in case anyone tried to harm us or later made false claims about our actions. I would have a camera in my bag as a backup. We decided that we would only talk to people who first approached us, so that no one would be able to accuse us of harassing people at the festival.

Just before we were leaving for the festival, Josh got food poisoning. Thus, Paul would have to be our close-range videographer. We knew from last year, however, that we needed someone filming from farther away. We tried to find someone, but people were extremely reluctant to enter a situation where we had been threatened. In the end, the only person willing to enter a crowd of thousands of Muslims with us was, ironically, a 4'11 recent convert from Islam to Christianity--Negeen Mayel. Since we knew that someone might attack us, we didn't want Negeen too close to us. Hence, we instructed Negeen (a) not to talk to us or associate with us at the festival, (b) to stay far away from us at all times, and (c) to come get us if there's trouble, in which case we would leave.

Nabeel and I entered the Arab Festival around 7:00 P.M. on Friday. We spent the first fifteen minutes or so explaining our reasons for returning to the festival.

Although we had planned that Nabeel and I would do most of the talking for our group, I noticed very quickly that young Muslims were far more interested in talking to Nabeel (since he was a former Muslim and was featured more prominently in our "Sharia in the U.S." video). Thus, for later discussions, I took a backseat and focused on recording.

When festival security guards (who had been embarrassed by our YouTube video demonstrating their thug tactics) realized we had returned to the festival, they began conspiring to have us kicked out. Leading the conspiracy was the Arab Chamber of Commerce's Norma Haidous, the Muslim woman who had assaulted Mary Jo at last year's festival (and one of the three individuals police had assured us would be banned from the festival). How do we know about the plot? Security revealed their plan to an Arab Christian, whom they mistakenly thought was a Muslim (due to his Arab garb). This Arab Christian later informed us of the plot against us. Additionally, a New York police sergeant who was visiting the festival overheard the plotting of festival security, and he also informed us of what was going on. Indeed, the New York police sergeant even contacted Dearborn Police Sergeant Mrowka to let him know that security was attempting to set us up. Sergeant Mrowka, however, refused to intervene. (Sergeant Mrowka later gave the order to arrest us. Was he in on the plot from the beginning?)

The double standards at the festival were quite disturbing. Officially, people were only free to distribute materials at their booths. However, since Muslim security guards were in charge of enforcing this rule, it was applied selectively. As we walked through the festival, we saw numerous people distributing items outside of booths. Yet, if a Christian (assuming he hadn't earned the favor of the Arab Chamber of Commerce) were to hand out a tract or pamphlet, he would be harassed, bullied, and taken to police.

The volunteer who had taken Luke to police was a man named Roger Williams, a member of a Christian organization called "Impact International." Apparently, Impact International believes that the best approach for winning the favor of Muslims is to help Muslims rid the Dearborn Arab Festival of unwanted Christians. Thus, members of Impact went around the festival searching for Christians who were distributing materials, ultimately taking them to police for questioning.

We knew that Roger had harassed Luke. Thus, when we saw Roger talking to Luke again, we wanted to make sure everything was okay.

Roger testified in court that, after this brief encounter, security (yes, the same security guards who were looking for an opportunity to get us kicked out of the festival) convinced him to bring the matter to police. Roger was all too happy to comply, since in his mind this was the best way to befriend Muslims. In his effort to please security, Roger went so far as to falsify a police report (you can view Roger's shockingly deceptive report here).

Some of our critics have erroneously tried to exonerate the Dearborn Police Department by claiming that police arrested us based on the information they had, even though the information they had was inaccurate. (That is, Roger Williams gave them false information; the police acted on that information; hence, Roger Williams, rather than the Dearborn Police Department, is to be blamed.) This is incorrect, however. Dearborn Police testified at our trial that we weren't arrested based on our encounter with Roger. Instead, the Roger incident led police to come question us. It was our actions when police arrived, they claimed at our trial, that led to our arrests. (As the video footage will show, however, Nabeel was simply answering questions when police came and arrested him. The rest of us were recording. This explains the need to invent all kinds of false claims about us in order to justify our arrests.)

Negeen's job was to film us from a distance, in case something went wrong. Although we didn't want anyone to know that Negeen was associated with us (for her safety), security and the volunteers eventually realized that she was part of our group. Once police had decided to arrest us, they also decided that they had better get Negeen out of the picture, so that the arrests wouldn't be recorded. Two police officers and four others surrounded Negeen, ordered her to turn off her camera (this is illegal), put their hands on her (illegal) when she tried to alert us, and arrested her when she hadn't broken any laws (illegal). In case anyone is wondering, no, United States citizens do not have to obey the orders of a police officer if the officer has no right to issue the order. (This is why you don't have to obey a police officer if he tells you to wash his car, or take off your clothes, etc.)

Since we didn't know Negeen had been arrested, we kept walking through the tent we were in. A young Muslim approached us with our cameras rolling, and then said he was going to sue us for recording him. (Strange, since he walked in front of our cameras.) Nabeel engaged him in dialogue, and everything was going smoothly within a few minutes. Police can even be seen actually doing their job in the video, when they told Muslims to take a step back from Nabeel. As we now know, however, they were already plotting to arrest us, and were just looking for an excuse.

According to Dearborn Mayor John O'Reilly, police ordered us to break up our conversation, but we refused. We also deliberately blocked a tent exit in order to cause a scene. These were supposedly the reasons for our arrest. These are interesting claims, since Mayor O'Reilly watched the video footage of our arrests, and since the video footage proves that the mayor's claims are false. I asked police if we should move, and they said, "No, you're fine." I don't speak Dearbornese, so I didn't realize that "You're fine" means "Leave now or we'll arrest you."

It seems that holding a camera in Dearborn is unofficially illegal. That's the only possible justification for having Paul and me arrested, since we were simply holding video cameras. Later, of course, the Mayor realized that there are no laws on the books against filming a dialogue, so he had to invent a story about me blocking a tent entrance in order to justify my arrest. But those pesky video cameras of ours just don't lie.

After police arrested me, they went for Paul and Nabeel. Notice how peacefully Nabeel was responding to the questions of Muslims, and how peacefully he reacted when police put him in handcuffs. This is quite different from the Nabeel we read about in the police report and Mayor's letter (i.e. the Nabeel who was screaming at a crowd and grew louder when police took him into custody).

After being arrested, we were taken to the Dearborn City Jail. We began our stay by singing some hymns. Later, we even preached the Gospel. We were in different cells, so we couldn't see each other or other inmates. We eventually began the following discussion:

NABEEL: "Yo Wood, are there other people back here?"
ME: "Yes, and you're probably keeping them up by yelling to me."
NABEEL: "Maybe we should preach the Gospel."
ME: "The Gospel? What's that?"
NABEEL: "It's a message about . . ." [Nabeel explains the Gospel]
ME: "But Nabeel, there are lots of religions out there. Why should I believe this 'Gospel'?"

At this point, Nabeel gave a basic apologetics presentation. Interestingly, a few days later, one of the inmates sent us an email, thanking Nabeel for helping him get over some anger issues.

On a horrifying note, one of the police officers in the jail told us that there are honor killings in Dearborn but that they get covered up by the police department. He said that he had walked into houses where girls had been beheaded or had had their throats slit. (But check the local newspapers. You won't find any mention of these crimes.) The officer told us that some of the officers in the department support what we're doing.

Shortly after we were released from jail, we recorded a video explaining what had happened. Many Muslims were rejoicing at our arrests and spreading all kinds of false accusations (more on this later). Nabeel made an important claim in this video, namely, that our stories would not change, while the stories of our critics would have to change in light of video footage. Apart from some minor details (e.g. Negeen seems to me to be less than 100 feet away, and we seem to have blurred the last two dialogues together in our minds--simple memory problems due to our cameras being taken way), our story is exactly the same. We were engaging in peaceful dialogue with Muslims when police arrested us. But what about the stories of our critics? What of all the claims that we were screaming at the crowd, that we were harassing Muslims, that we were inciting a riot, etc.? These stories changed over and over again as we released video footage, just as we said they would.

Two days after our arrest, Paul, Negeen, and I returned to the Arab Festival, along with our friends Antonio and Josh. Paul, Josh, and Antonio were distributing copies of the Gospel of John (outside of the festival) for less than three minutes when eight police officers surrounded them. Police also seized my camera (illegally) and took all of us into custody. When Antonio tried to call his pastor, police seized his phone. They took us to their portable police station, photographed us, and wrote down all of our information. They told us that we would have to walk five blocks away from the festival if we wanted to distribute copies of the Gospel. If we dared hand anything out again within five blocks of the festival, we would be taken to jail.

This video doesn't tell the whole story, for a crucial detail is left out. While we were at the festival, police illegally forced us to erase some of our video footage. There was absolutely no respect for our civil rights.

Shortly after our arrests, Josh McDowell again posted a video defending Dearborn. Josh explains that he didn't get into a single argument the entire weekend. After receiving heavy criticism, the embedding feature and comments have been disabled for Josh's video, but you can still watch it here.

According to Haytham Abi-Haydar, Josh McDowell's ministry received special privileges at the 2010 Arab Festival. Presumably due to his loyalty last year, Josh's team was allowed to violate the distribution rules. They were allowed to walk around the festival distributing materials, without interference from security or police. Defending the city has its privileges.

Dearborn Police illegally seized our video cameras on June 18th. Obviously, they didn't want us posting what really happened on YouTube. On June 21st, the Thomas More Law Center faxed a letter to Chief Haddad demanding the immediate return of our illegally seized video equipment. Also on June 21st, Judge Mark Somers (the judge who would later try our case) issued a warrant for police to examine the video footage. On June 22nd, the Dearborn Police Department made a copy of all our video footage. Since they had a copy of all our footage, there was no reason to keep our cameras. Nevertheless, the Police Department refused to return our video cameras until July 14th (after being ordered by the court to return them). It seems the police wanted to keep us from posting footage that would prove our innocence.

The City of Dearborn received thousands of complaints about our arrests. The city saved the contact info of the people who complained. The city later used this contact info to spread numerous lies about us, through the letter of Dearborn Mayor John O'Reilly. The city further misled people through its website.

According to the City of Dearborn's official website:

Public safety became an issue for both members of Acts 17 Apologetics and the gathering crowd. The four (4) members of Acts 17 Apologetics chose to escalate their behavior, which appeared well-orchestrated and deliberate, and chose not to follow the directions being given to them by the responding officers. The behavior of these individuals drew and incited a large crowd to a point where they were in violation of City of Dearborn Misdemeanor Ordinances of Breach of Peace and Failure to Obey the Lawful Order of a Police Officer. They were arrested. Upon their arrest, the crowd dispersed without further action being needed.

Mayor O'Reilly's letter distorts the facts even more:

At the time he was arrested on Friday, June 18, Mr. Wood had gathered a large crowd around him, blocking a key access point between the tents. The crowd was forced to grow bigger solely because people could not pass. Those who created this public danger did so with the knowledge that they were violating the laws because they wanted to be arrested while their cohorts were actively recording the event for posting on the web. They knew that they could inflame the passions of viewers who would be taken in by their misrepresentation of what was really going on.

The video footage clearly refutes these absurd claims, which is precisely why the Police Department refused to return our cameras. Dearborn's leaders wanted to attack us, but didn't want the public to learn the truth.

Since we didn't have our video footage, Nabeel made a video refuting claims that could be exposed without our video footage. As you can see, the mayor's letter was filled with false claims.

The response we received from Muslims wasn't surprising. Some Muslims contacted us and said that they disagreed with the treatment we received, while others supported our arrests. The Christian response, however, was shocking. While many Christians spoke out in our defense (e.g. James White, Michigan State Representative Tom McMillin, and, yes, Chuck Norris), numerous attacks against us were launched, led by Pastor Haytham Abi-Haydar, Hussein Wario, David Cougle (a Christian lawyer), Ali ElHajj, and several others.

It's one thing for Christians to disagree with one another. It's something else entirely for Christians to make utterly false claims. For instance, Ali ElHajj said of us: "they're about as abrasive as they can be." If calmly answering questions about Christianity is the epitome of abrasiveness (as Ali seems to believe), I would hate to see his reaction to numerous New Testament texts, which often involve open rebuke and the condemnation of opposing views.

Shortly after the festival, a lawyer named David Cougle sent a message to thousands of Christians. (He didn't bother sending his accusation to me or Nabeel.) Cougle claimed that he had witnessed us harassing children:

"I was present when both David and Nabeel were arguing and harassing children, as they were right behind the table I was at. I watched them do it."

Since on no occasion did we harass or argue with any children, I was confused about Cougle's claim. I asked him if he could describe the encounter. When I finally figured out what he was talking about, I reviewed our video footage. Nabeel, Paul, and I were sitting against a wall. A group of children came up to us, mocked Jesus (note: Muslims aren't supposed to do this), and called Negeen a "whore." Despite their insults, Nabeel responded peacefully and changed the subject. (Paul and I kept our mouths closed.) We didn't argue with them at all, and we certainly didn't harass them. Later at the festival, Nabeel even bought treats for two of them at a concession stand. (One of them eventually asked me for a copy of the Gospel.) Hence, I was thoroughly confused by Cougle's confident assertion that we had harassed them. When I asked him about it, he changed his story radically. Instead of saying that he had witnessed us harassing children, he said that he overheard children complaining to police that we had harassed them. Quite a difference, don't you think? Yet Cougle refuses to correct his error or apologize to the Christians he misled with his false claim. Cougle wrote a report to police and was willing to testify against us, but apparently the prosecuting attorney knew that Cougle's testimony would be inadmissible hearsay.

The main force behind the misrepresentation of our work has been Pastor Haytham Abi-Haydar, who spread numerous false reports of our activities (e.g. that police ordered us to leave, but we refused, that police only removed us for our safety, etc.), constantly defended the City of Dearborn, testified against us in court, and even encouraged other Christians to testify against us. To this day, I have no clue what Haytham hopes to gain by attacking Christians and defending Dearborn.

These are the sorts of claims we've had to deal with, but the inaccuracies aren't merely the result of individual Christians. Both Christianity Today and Charisma distributed horribly inaccurate accounts of what happened in Dearborn.

There seems to be little concern for truth or accuracy among our critics.

Since the video footage obviously exonerated us, I expected the City of Dearborn to drop the ridiculous charges against us. But I had forgotten that this is Dearborn, a city all too willing to prosecute people for holding a video camera and answering questions. The trial began on Monday and lasted until Friday. Throughout the trial, prosecuting attorney William DeBiasi attempted to convince the jury that video footage isn't all that reliable, and that they should therefore accept the testimony of witnesses who completely contradicted what was clearly seen on the videos. I guess that's about the best you can do when all of the evidence favors the defendants.

DeBiasi was rather diabolical. In order to avoid the impression that the trial had anything to do with Islam, DeBiasi didn't call any Muslim witnesses to the stand. He did, however, call a number of Christians as witnesses, and he repeatedly referred to Josh McDowell's presence at the festival as proof that the City of Dearborn has no objections to free speech and no problem with Christian evangelism.

Although Judge Mark Somers allowed hearsay testimony reporting complaints about us, he refused to allow testimony of people who had heard security plotting to have us kicked out of the festival. He even refused to allow Negeen to argue that the order issued by Corporal Kapanowski was unlawful. This was quite strange, considering the fact that Kapanowski admitted, under oath, that Negeen hadn't even been accused of a crime when he approached her (in which case he had no right to order her to turn off her camera). There's more on this here.

The stories of Dearborn Police in court were quite different from what they wrote in their police reports, for they had to "argue around" the video evidence. Thus, Kapanowski argued that even though there weren't all that many Muslims surrounding Nabeel in the video footage, there was a massive crowd that wasn't picked up by the cameras (despite the fact that we had two cameras rolling, facing different directions). Kapanowski also claimed (contrary to the police report), that Nabeel only began yelling and inciting the crowd after our cameras were taken from us. Kapanowski even said that the crowd began to turn against the police! (If you watched the video of the crowd cheering as we were taken away in handcuffs, you know how absurd this claim is.)

In the end, we were found "not guilty" of breaching the peace. The video footage was simply too strong to ignore. Based on the judge's blunder, however, Negeen was found guilty of failing to obey the lawful order of a police officer (even though the order was unlawful). This faulty conviction is being appealed.

Following our acquittals in Dearborn, Mayor John O'Reilly continued his barrage of false accusations against us. I responded to some of the mayor's deliberate misrepresentations of our views:

As is always the case, it's easy to misinterpret things when one hasn't carefully examined the facts. This happened when political candidate Sharron Angle claimed that Dearborn is under Sharia law. Due to this claim, Angle was repeatedly ridiculed by the media. To clear up the misunderstanding, consider the difference between the following claims:

CLAIM #1: Dearborn is under Sharia.
CLAIM #2: Someone enforced Sharia in Dearborn.

The first claim suggests that the city is officially governed by Sharia. The second simply claims that someone carried out some tenet of Islamic law. For instance, if someone in Dearborn steals a radio, and, in accordance with Islamic law, a Muslim chops off his hand, I would say that someone enforced Sharia in Dearborn.

As we have repeatedly stated on our blog, we are claiming that someone has enforced Sharia in Dearborn. When I find that I am not free to distribute materials outside of a booth, while numerous Muslims are free to distribute materials outside of their booths, and I learn that Muslim security guards are the ones behind this situation, I conclude that someone is implementing an element of Sharia. When Muslim security guards physically assault Christians for questioning Islam at a booth, I conclude that someone has enforced Sharia. When Christians get arrested while having a peaceful discussion with Muslims (and the Muslims don't get arrested), I conclude that someone has enforced Sharia. Does this mean that the entire city is governed by Sharia, or that the city has seceded from the United States? Not at all. It seems that many of our critics believe that there are only two possibilities: Either (1) a city is completely, totally, utterly governed by Sharia, or (2) Sharia has no impact at all. These alternatives, however, are incomplete. A third alternative is that Sharia has a limited impact in the city, and I would say that this is the case in Dearborn.

Yes, it's coming. Wait for it . . .

What does this leave us with? If you see something wrong in Dearborn, you'd better be quiet about it. What happens in Dearborn stays in Dearborn. If you're willing to keep quiet about injustice, and if you're willing to defend the city, mayor, and police department regardless of what they do, you'll be a welcome visitor. If, on the other hand, you draw attention to wrongdoing, if you shine a spotlight on injustice, you will be attacked, both physically and verbally. You will be thrown in jail. Many Christians will condemn you (though they won't say a word against the city). The slander and libel will not cease. If the police department repeatedly lies in order to justify your arrests, the media will ignore it. If your rights are violated by police, the judge will rule in favor of the police. You will be thrashed by the media. You will be called a racist and a bigot. The city will do anything to send you a message: "Don't draw attention to what's going on here. . . . or else."

Sounds like a job for Acts 17. If we hear about Christians being harassed by a security guard with "Hezbollah" tattooed down his arm, we aren't going to ignore it. If we walk by a booth distributing "Pee on Israel" t-shirts, we're going to say something. If someone puts their hands on our Christian sisters (Mary Jo and Negeen), we're not going to praise security, or police, or the mayor. There is, of course, a penalty for our position. When we enter Dearborn, we have a police force, a prosecuting attorney's office, judges, the mayor, some Muslims, and even some Christians who are willing to do anything to silence us.

Welcome to Dearborn. "Nothing to see here."

Los Angeles City Council Passes Resolution Opposing "Islamophobia"

I think Americans should be more offended that Muslim advocacy groups are constantly accusing Americans of being racist and bigoted, when Americans are overwhelmingly tolerant.

Without serious debate or examination, the Los Angeles City Council recently passed a resolution that opposes "Islamophobia" and "repudiates" random acts of violence against Muslims.

This admittedly ceremonial resolution apparently accepts the premise that residents of the city commit acts of hate against Muslims so often that it warrants an official resolution from city leaders condemning and repudiating these acts. Is this really the case?

According to the latest hate crime report from the Los Angeles County Commission on Human Relations, 88 percent of all religiously based hate crimes in 2009 were against Jews. Hate crimes that targeted Muslims (3 percent) ranked slightly above those directed at Scientologists (1 percent). In fact, the commission found that attacks against Christians (8 percent) outnumbered attacks against Muslims.

In any case, the actual number of reported hate crimes based on religion is quite small. In a county that has more than 10 million highly diverse residents, only a total of 131 crimes based on religion took place in all of 2009. Of course, this in no way takes away from the emotional or physical harm that each and every one of these attacks causes.

Since only 3 percent of 131 hate crimes during 2009 was directed against Muslims, it's difficult to understand why city leaders would pass a resolution that zeroes in on the category that has the next-to-lowest numbers recorded by the County's Human Relations Commission.

It appears that the City Council simply took information provided by an advocacy group, one that's hardly unbiased, and uncritically spat out a resolution opposing "Islamophobia" and "random acts of violence against Muslim-Americans." (Read more.)

Since the city council is condemning bigotry, I wonder why they don't address some of Muhammad's claims:

Sahih Muslim 33—It has been narrated on the authority of Abdullah b. Umar that the Messenger of Allah said: I have been commanded to fight against people till they testify that there is no god but Allah, that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah, and they establish prayer, and pay Zakat and if they do it, their blood and property are guaranteed protection on my behalf except when justified by law, and their affairs rest with Allah.

Sahih Muslim 4366—It has been narrated by ‘Umar b. al-Khattab that he heard the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) say: I will expel the Jews and Christians from the Arabian Peninsula and will not leave any but Muslim.

Nine Muslims Charged in Christmas Terror Plot

The Qur'an clearly commands Muslims to fight non-Muslims.

Qur’an 9:29—Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the Religion of Truth, from among the People of the Book, until they pay the Jizyah with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued.

Qur’an 9:73—O Prophet! strive hard against the unbelievers and the hypocrites and be unyielding to them; and their abode is hell, and evil is the destination.

Qur’an 9:111—Surely Allah has bought of the believers their persons and their property for this, that they shall have the garden; they fight in Allah's way, so they slay and are slain.

Qur’an 9:123—O you who believe! fight those of the unbelievers who are near to you and let them find in you hardness; and know that Allah is with those who guard (against evil).

Qur’an 47:35—Be not weary and fainthearted, crying for peace, when ye should be uppermost.

Qur’an 48:29—Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, and those who are with him are severe against disbelievers, and merciful among themselves.

True, most Muslims don't take these commands seriously. But there's always a faithful minority.

Nine alleged terrorists plotted a Christmas bombing campaign targeting sites that included the London Stock Exchange and Big Ben, a court heard.

They are alleged to have carried out reconnaissance missions before deciding on their possible targets.

Police were said to have found a list of six sites, including the full postal address of the Stock Exchange, Boris Johnson’s London mayoral office and the US embassy.

Defendants were seen studying the tower of Big Ben, before inspecting Westminster Abbey, the London Eye and the Church of Scientology.

Al-Qaeda inspired books and leaflets, including instructions on making a pipe bomb, were also uncovered during the counter-terrorism operation.

Details of the alleged plot were outlined at City of Westminster magistrates’ court. (Read more.)

Spanish Prosecutor Throws out Muslim Student's "Ham" Complaint

A prosecutor has thrown out a complaint made by a Muslim family against a geography teacher who mentioned pork in their son’s class.

The teacher was explaining how cold climate in Granada highlands helps to preserve local Serrano ham.

The Children’s Prosecutor of Algeciras, Juan Cisneros, described the complaining pupil’s attitude as ‘abusive, sectarian, capricious and inadmissible’ and ordered the denouncement to be archived.

He said: “There is not even the minimal indication of any type of crime.”

The prosecutor went on to condemn the media storm created by the pupil’s parents and their opponents. He described the public’s interest in the case as ‘worrying’. (Source)

Department of Homeland Security Uncovers Muslim Plot to Poison Food in U.S. Restaurants

The Jihad continues. I wonder how long it will continue before the government actually decides to look into the source of Jihad.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has discovered a plot to poison food in U.S. hotels and restaurants, CBS News reports.

The plot, uncovered earlier this year, involved the simultaneous poisoning of food served in hotels and restaurants across the U.S. over a single weekend. Two different poisons, ricin and cyanide, would be slipped into salad bars and buffets.

According to CBS, a "key intelligence source" confirmed that the threat was "credible." So credible, in fact, that the DHS, Department of Agriculture and the FDA briefed key security officers in the hotel and restaurant industries about the attack.

Officials believe that those behind the plot may be tied to the Yemeni-based al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP). In October, AQAP attempted a cargo bombing scheme, in which explosives were placed in two packages shipped to Chicago addresses.

On Monday, Department of Homeland Security spokesman Sean Smith refused to respond specifically to the CBS report. "However," Smith said, "counterterrorism and security communities have engaged in extensive efforts for many years to guard against all types of terrorist attacks, including unconventional attacks." He noted that al-Qaida has stated it hopes to carry out unconventional attacks for more than a decade and that AQAP has voiced similar intentions over the past year.

Tuesday, Attorney General Eric Holder told ABC News that he is trying to "make people aware of the fact that the threat is real, the threat is different, the threat is constant."

In the poisoning case, it appears officials stopped it from coming to fruition. Yet, Holder's warning Tuesday rings clear - "The terrorists only have to be successful once." (Source)

U.K. Terror Plot Aimed at Landmarks and Public Places

Is anyone starting to notice a pattern?

LONDON – A large-scale terror attack was aimed at British landmarks and public spaces, security officials said Tuesday as more details emerged and police searched the homes of 12 British suspects being held for questioning.

The men — whose ages range from 17 to 28 — were arrested Monday in the largest counterterrorism raid in nearly two years. At least five were of Bangladeshi origin.

Lord Carlile, the government's independent watchdog for terror legislation, said Tuesday the alleged plot appeared significant and involved several British cities, but he did not identify the targets. Police have up to 28 days to either charge the men or release them.

Possible targets that were scouted include the Houses of Parliament in London and shopping areas around the U.K., according to a security official who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the investigation was ongoing.

The plot, however, was unconnected to a larger European plot uncovered in the fall involving a Mumbai-style shooting spree in cities across Britain, France or Germany, the official said. Monday's arrests were also unrelated to last week's suicide bombing in Sweden and the plot did not appear to be timed for the holidays, he said. (Read more.)

Muslim Student Traumatized after Teacher Mentions Ham

And the West continues to submit.

More Than 100 Canadian Christians Targeted for Attempting to Convert Muslims

More than 100 Canadian-Arab Christians are listed on an al-Qaeda affiliated website, apparently targeted because of their alleged role in attempting to convert Muslims.

Some of those named say concerned Canadian intelligence officials have contacted them.

The Shumukh-al-Islam website, often considered to be al-Qaeda's mouthpiece, listed pictures, addresses and cellphone numbers of Coptic Christians, predominantly Egyptian-Canadians, who have been vocal about their opposition to Islam.

In a forum on the website, one member named Son of a Sharp Sword, said, "We are going to return back to Islam and all of the Mujahedeen [holy warriors] will cut off their heads."

Three pages of the fundamentalist, Arabic-language website titled "Complete Information on Coptics" sets to "identify and name all of the Coptics throughout the world who hope to defame Islam." The website calls the Coptic Christians living abroad "dogs in diaspora," a derogatory reference in Arabic.

Among those named on the Shumukh-al-Islam website is Samuel Tawadrous, a Coptic Egyptian living in Quebec.

"This is a direct threat against our lives," Tawadrous said in an interview.

"They are trying to inform each other in hopes that someone can carry out this threat. They could be in Egypt and they could be here. Our names and our pictures are listed."

Tawadrous's picture and cellphone number were listed on the site.

One of the prominent figures listed on the website is Salim Naguib, who helped establish a Coptic organization in Canada. Naguib is described on the website as opposing Islamic Shariah and as converting Muslims to Christianity. His picture, career background and cellphone number are listed on the website.

But he said in an interview he won't be frightened.

"I only fear God," said Naguib when reached by phone. "These websites mean nothing any more." (Read more.)

Twelve Suspects Arrested in Anti-Terrorism Raids

Anyone care to guess which holy book these terror suspects believe in?

A teenage boy is among 12 people arrested as part of a major anti-terrorism operation in the UK.

The suspects - five from Cardiff, four from Stoke-on-Trent and three from London - were detained by unarmed officers at around 5am.

A 17-year-old boy and 11 men aged up to 28 are being held on suspicion of the commission, preparation or instigation of an act of terrorism in the UK.

It is understood they were arrested in connection with a plot to bomb multiple targets in the UK.

Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner John Yates, national lead for counter-terrorism policing, said that with the terrorist threat level in the UK at "severe" the arrests were "absolutely necessary to keep the public safe".

Home Secretary Theresa May said the UK faces "a real and serious threat from terrorism" and thanked the police and security service for keeping the country safe. (Read more.)

Rape and Abduction of Christian and Hindu Girls by Muslim Men on the Rise

Why isn't anyone surprised? Is it because we're starting to realize that Muhammad's teachings and moral example have had an impact?

Gulfam (“like a flower”) is 9 years old (her surname is not revealed out of respect for the family) and is enrolled in the third grade. She lives in a village in the district of Tehsil Samundari. On December 10th, she returned from school to bake chapatti bread with her sister-in-law. She went with her 7-year-old cousin to collect firewood in a nearby sugarcane field. After a short time, the cousin came home and reported that Gulfam had been dragged away by a man. When relatives arrived at the scene, they caught the rapist red-handed, who then immediately fled.

Gulfam's mother took the half-naked girl home. Then the parents went to the police to report the rape, who then arrested the suspect. But the family is terrified because the village is mainly Muslim. The relatives of the rapist have already tried to intimidate Gulfam's family to withdraw the charges. The girl said when she refused the rapist's offer of money, he then taped her mouth and assaulted her. The assailant reportedly told his victim “not to worry because he had done the same service to other young Christian girls.”

“It is shameful. Such incidents occur frequently. Christian girls are considered goods to be damaged at leisure. Abusing them is a right. According to the community's mentality it is not even a crime. Muslims regard them as spoils of war,” local sources report.

Gulfam is now under the care of some Catholic women. The same sisters tearfully described their outrage and pain for little Gulfam and for other Christian girls abused by wealthy Muslims.

Other similar cases include the October 2010 rapes of Lubna Masih and Kiran Nayyaz. According to the Centre for Legal Aid Assistance and Settlement (CLAAS) abductions and sexual violence against Christian and Hindu girls are increasing in Pakistan. These often also involve forced conversion and marriage. Most cases go unpunished. (Source)

U.K. Muslim Inmates Brutally Attack Prison Guard

Four young British Muslim extremists chanted religious slogans as they battered a prison officer. The gang chanted "death to the Kuffar" (non-believer) and "Allah Akbar" (God is Great) as they laid into the warder - who is in his 40s - after prayers.

It is believed they were trying to steal his keys to let other inmates out and start a riot at the notorious Feltham Young Offenders' Institute in Middlex.

A fellow officer came to his rescue as he hid under a pool table and used his baton to drive them back.

A source said: "It was a frightening and violent assault. The guard was lucky to escape with his life." (Source)

Plight of Foreign Workers in Muslim Countries Continues

A young woman lies in a Saudi hospital with her head bandaged, her lips cut off, burns all over body and broken bones.

The shocking photos of her injuries have caused an uproar in her home country of Indonesia but many fear Sumiati is not alone in her suffering.

She arrived in Saudi Arabia in July a high-spirited 23-year-old, eager to start work as a maid to help support her family back home.

Four months later, she is Indonesia's poster child for migrant abuse, alone and staring vacantly from a hospital bed, her face sliced and battered.

But while public anger has forced President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's government to acknowledge the problem for the first time, few expect any firm action to be taken.

Gruesome images of Sumiati, now recovering in the Saudi city of Medina, have been splashed on the front pages of local newspapers in Indonesia and led TV news for more than a week.

Her employer - who has been taken in for questioning by police - is accused of cutting off part of her lips with scissors, scalding her back with an iron, fracturing her middle finger, and beating her legs until she could hardly walk.

She was admitted to the hospital three weeks ago unconscious, with signs of malnutrition and blood loss, and could barely speak, in addition to the horrifying visible injuries.

She claims the mother and daughter both beat her regularly.

'It's hardly the first such case,' said Wahyu Susilo of the Indonesian advocacy group, Migrant Care.

'Again and again we hear about slavery-like conditions, torture, sexual abuse and even death, but our government has chosen to ignore it. Why? Because migrant workers generate $7.5billion of dollars (£4.7billion) in foreign exchange every year.'

Workers from Asian countries dominate service industries in the Middle East and there have been many reports of abuse - including recent allegations that an employer in Kuwait hammered 14 metal pins into the body of a Sri Lankan maid.

'The wanton brutality alleged in these cases is shocking,' said Nisha Varia, senior women's rights researcher at the New York-based Human Rights Watch. It has called on authorities to investigate claims promptly and bring those responsible to justice.

She and others called cases like that of Sumiati the 'tip of the iceberg'. (Read more.)

Another Christian Girl Kidnapped by Muslims in Iraq

Mosul, 15 Dec. (AKI) - Armed militants abducted a young Christian female student from her home in Iraq's northern city of Mosul. The gunmen burst into her home in Mosul's Karaj neighbourhood overnight and drove her away to an undisclosed location, according to the Ankawa Christian news website.

It is estimated that of the 100,000 Christians who once lived in Mosul, only some 5,000 are still there following the rise of radical Islam and attacks on the religious minority. The girl is a student at a local technical institute.

Christians are reportedly fleeing Iraq in unpredented numbers following a wave of attacks against the community in Baghdad, Mosul and elsewhere in the country.

An attack against a Christian church in Baghdad on 31 October, left 58 worshippers dead including two priests. It was one of the worst in the spate of attacks that have targeted Iraqi Christians and have left scores dead over the past two months.

Pope Benedict XVI has appealed for an end to the violence against Christians in Iraq.

There have been calls for Iraq to create an autonomous Christian region in the north of the country, where around 100,000 Christians have taken refuge since the US-led invasion and occupation of Iraq in 2003.

Many of Iraq's approximately 500,000 remaining Christians are said to be living in fear of their lives. (Source)

Iraq Obtains Information on Holiday Bomb Plots in the U.S. and Europe

As the West prepares to celebrate the Christmas holiday, members of a certain religion are planning acts of terror. Anyone care to guess the religion?

BAGHDAD – Iraqi authorities have obtained confessions from captured insurgents who claim al-Qaida is planning suicide attacks in the United States and Europe during the Christmas season, two senior officials said Wednesday.

A senior U.S. intelligence official confirmed the threat as credible.

Iraqi Interior Minister Jawad al-Bolani told The Associated Press that the botched bombing in central Stockholm last weekend was among the alleged plots the insurgents revealed. Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari, in a telephone interview from New York, called the claims "a critical threat."

Both al-Bolani and Zebari said Iraq has informed Interpol of the alleged plots, and alerted authorities in the U.S. and European countries of the possible danger. Neither official specified which country or countries in Europe are alleged targets. (Read more.)

Another Muslim Arrested for Trying to Blow Up Americans

I'd quote a bunch of passages from the Qur'an and Hadith showing that this man was simply following his religion, but I'll wait until the next terrorist attempt. Sadly, I doubt it will be long.

BALTIMORE – A 21-year-old construction worker who had recently converted to Islam and told an FBI informant he thought about nothing but jihad was arrested Wednesday when he tried to detonate what he thought was a bomb at a military recruitment center, authorities said.

Antonio Martinez, a naturalized U.S. citizen also known as Muhammad Hussain, faces charges of attempted murder of federal officers and attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction, according to court documents filed Wednesday.

The bomb he is accused of trying to detonate was fake and had been provided by an undercover FBI agent. It was loaded into an SUV that Martinez parked in front of the recruiting center, authorities said, and an FBI informant picked him up and drove him to a nearby vantage point where he tried to set it off.

It was the second time in less than two weeks that a young man was arrested trying to detonate what he thought was a bomb during a sting operation. (Read more.)

Apostates Face Death Penalty in Iran

(CNN) -- A Christan pastor in Iran has been sentenced to death for allegedly renouncing his Muslim religion and another faces a possible indictment on the same charge of apostasy, according to a prominent activist group working for human rights in Iran.

Youcef Nadarkhani, a 32-year-old member of the Church of Iran ministry and pastor of an approximately 400-person congregation in the northern city of Rasht, faces death, according to the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran.

In the southern city of Shiraz, another Christian pastor, Behrouz Sadegh-Khanjani, 35, is facing a possible indictment for apostasy.

"This is part of a greater trend of persecution against Christians," said Firouz Sadegh-Khanjani, brother of Behrouz and member of the Church of Iran's Executive Council.

Christians are feeling the heat in other parts of the Muslim world as well.

In Iraq, Christians have been attacked and many have fled their homes for other lands. In Pakistan, a Christian woman faces a death sentence for blasphemy for allegedly defiling the name of the Prophet Mohammed.

On September 22, Iran's 11th Circuit Criminal Court of Appeals for the Gilan Province upheld the death sentence and conviction of Nadarkhani for apostasy.

Apostasy is the "act of renouncing one's religion," the human rights group said Tuesday, but it "is not a crime under Iran's Islamic Penal Code. Instead, the presiding judge in Nadarkhani's case rested his opinion on texts by Iranian religious scholars."

"It is the low point of any judicial system to sentence a person to death outside of its own legal framework," said Aaron Rhodes, a spokesman for the campaign.

"To execute someone based on the religion they choose to practice or not practice is the ultimate form of religious discrimination and disregard for the freedom of conscience and belief."

The judgment said Nadarkhani was born to Muslim parents but converted to Christianity when he was age 19 and it said that "during interrogations Nadarkhani made a written confession admitting he left Islam for Christianity." (Read more.)

Muslim Woman Refuses to Remove Hijab for Jail Photo, Jailers Comply

A Muslim woman caught drunk-driving refused to remove her hijab for her jail photo. Jail officials allowed her to leave without being photographed.

BOULDER (AP) - A Muslim woman who refused to remove her headscarf for a Boulder County jail booking photo has been told she'll have to explain her refusal to a judge.

19-year-old Maria Hardman of Boulder, who says she converted to Islam three years ago, pleaded guilty to an alcohol violation and was sentenced to two days in jail plus community service.

She told the Boulder Daily Camera on Friday that removing her headscarf for the photo would violate her beliefs because the Quran calls for Muslim women to wear the scarf except in the company of close family.

A police report said Hardman's blood-alcohol level was 0.19, more than twice the legal limit, after she crashed her motor-scooter in August. Alcohol consumption is generally considered to be banned by Islam.

Hardman said she drank punch provided at a party without knowing it contained alcohol. She said she left after she found out.

Hardman said she was told to remove the scarf for the photo Wednesday, when she reported to the jail to do paperwork in preparation for a two-day work crew as part of her sentence.

She said her attorney spent three hours trying to persuade officials to let her wear the scarf for the photo. She said jail officials eventually allowed her to leave without taking her photo, but it's not clear whether she began serving her sentence.

Larry Hank, who oversees the jail, said Hardman will have to explain her refusal to the judge in her case and that jail officials are preparing a motion to explain their reasoning.

The newspaper reported Hardman's attorney is also working on a motion.

No hearing has been scheduled. (Source)

Elderly Christian Couple Murdered by Muslims in Iraq

Muhammad said he would fight people until they convert to Islam.

Sahih Muslim 33—The Messenger of Allah said: I have been commanded to fight against people till they testify that there is no god but Allah, that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah, and they establish prayer, and pay Zakat.

The Qur'an commands Muslims to fight the unbelievers, and to be severe against unbelievers (but merciful among fellow Muslims).

Qur’an 9:123—O you who believe! fight those of the unbelievers who are near to you and let them find in you hardness.

Qur’an 48:29—Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, and those who are with him are severe against disbelievers, and merciful among themselves.

Qur’an 9:111—Surely Allah has bought of the believers their persons and their property for this, that they shall have the garden; they fight in Allah's way, so they slay and are slain.

This is why no one is ever surprised when Muslims kill non-Muslims.

BAGHDAD (AP) -- Iraqi police are reporting a new attack on Christians in Baghdad by gunmen who broke into the home of an elderly couple and killed them.

It was the latest in a series of attacks on the country's Christian minority, which has been fleeing the country in droves since an Oct. 31 assault on a Catholic church that killed 68.

Al-Qaeda's front group in Iraq has threatened Christians, saying the violence is retribution for Egypt's Coptic Church holding women captive for converting to Islam.

Police said four gunmen raided the home in a predominantly Shiite neighborhood Sunday evening and repeatedly shot the couple with silenced pistols before escaping. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to media. (Source)

Teenage Girl Tortured and Killed for Converting to Christianity in Somalia

As the media rush to defend Islam from criticism, another Christian is tortured and killed for leaving Islam.

NAIROBI, Kenya, December 3 (CDN) — A 17-year-old girl in Somalia who converted to Christianity from Islam was shot to death last week in an apparent “honor killing,” area sources said.

Nurta Mohamed Farah, who had fled her village of Bardher, Gedo Region to Galgadud Region to live with relatives after her parents tortured her for leaving Islam, died on Nov. 25. Area sources said they strongly suspected that the two unidentified men in Galgadud Region who shot her in the chest and head with a pistol were relatives or acting on their behest.

“Reports reached the relatives in Galgadud that Nurta Farah had converted to Christianity,” one source said. “The suspicion that the family is responsible is a solid one. The sister was killed in Abudwaq, a district in Galgadud Region, and the place where the incident took place is about 200 meters from where the sister was staying with relatives.”

Relatives buried Farah, sources said. Her parents had severely beaten her for leaving Islam and regularly shackled her to a tree at their home, Christian sources said. She had been confined to her home in Gedo region in southern Somalia since May 10, when her family found out that she had embraced Christianity, said a Christian leader who visited the area (see “Family of 17-Year-Old Somali Girl Abuses Her for Leaving Islam,” June 15).

Her parents also took her to a doctor who prescribed medication for a “mental illness,” he said. Alarmed by her determination to keep her faith, her father, Hassan Kafi Ilmi, and mother, Hawo Godane Haf, decided she had gone crazy and forced her to take the prescribed medication, but it had no effect in swaying her from her faith, the source said.

Traditionally, he added, many Somalis believe the Quran cures the sick, especially the mentally ill, so the Islamic scripture was recited to her twice a week.

She had declined her family’s offer of forgiveness in exchange for renouncing Christianity, the source said. The confinement began after the medication and punishments failed.

Area Christians had reported that Farah was shackled to a tree by day and put in a small, dark room at night.

Somalia’s Transitional Federal Government generally did not enforce protection of religious freedom found in the Transitional Federal Charter, according to the U.S. Department of State’s 2010 International Religious Freedom Report.

“Non-Muslims who practiced their religion openly faced occasional societal harassment,” the report stated. “Conversion from Islam to another religion was considered socially unacceptable. Those suspected of conversion faced harassment or even death from members of their community.” (Source)

Moderate Sheikh Abu Adam Arrested in Germany for Beating His Wife (While Quoting the Qur'an)

The Qur'an is quite clear: Muslim men are allowed to beat rebellious wives into submission. In fact, the women don't actually have to be rebellious. Men simply have to suspect or fear rebellion, and this subjective thought process justifies a beating.

Qur'an 4:34--Men are in charge of women, because Allah hath made the one of them to excel the other, and because they spend of their property (for the support of women). So good women are the obedient, guarding in secret that which Allah hath guarded. As for those from whom ye fear rebellion, admonish them and banish them to beds apart, and scourge them. Then if they obey you, seek not a way against them. Lo! Allah is ever High, Exalted, Great.

It should come as no surprise, then, that a Muslim sheikh would beat his wife for desiring to become more Westernized.

A Muslim imam who lectures on non-violence and advises the German government on interfaith issues has been arrested in Germany for beating up his wife.

Sheikh Abu Adam, 40, is now on remand in Munich while his wife, 31, is being guarded by police.

She was allegedly assaulted so badly that she suffered a broken nose and shoulder and numerous cuts and bruises.

Media reports claimed the woman, who has borne one of his ten children, wanted to live a more 'western' lifestyle and was allegedly attacked after telling her husband.

The police said they received a call from a lawyer hired by the victim.

Adam is alleged to have shouted a verse from the Koran at his wife as he beat her.

The line said: 'Good women are obedient. They guard their unseen parts because God has guarded them.

'As for those from whom you fear disobedience, admonish them and send them to beds apart and beat them.'

The imam is said to have refused to let police officers into his home, but they forced their way past him because they feared the woman's life was in danger.

Sheikh Adam is the Egyptian imam of the Darul Quran Mosque in Munich.

He is facing charges of causing grievous bodily harm and could face a jail term if convicted.

A week ago, he held a lecture at the city's Catholic University entitled 'An Islam which distances itself from violence'.
